As @jasonsanford.bsky.social put it in his Genre Grapevine article, the SFWA Rec. Reading List is back! It's a great way to discover what's vibing with SFWA members. My novelette The Winter of the Icebergirl is there! If you enjoyed it, feel free to show it some love ❤️
You may find they're AI generated and added to playlists so the distributor can pocket more of the ad revenue. Spotify and google have been doing it, so I'm sure Alexa's the same.
When I was in school in Texas, being atheist was often, if not always, met with 'what stops you from---" Because a permission structure enforces obedience to authority, and does not require critical thinking or interior examination.
I'm matching this to auto-fiction I've read. We should switch to DMs though. Sloppers shouldnt get ideas on how to better hide their slop... if they're even capable of that much work. 🤣
Its interesting. There's a lot here I already knew. The heavy-handed morality-deafening dialogue and over-pithy, nonsense endings have always bugged me, but I'm interested in the 'Internal vs. External' story beats.
Ooooo, reading now
This was a headache, but I'm pleased with how it's turning out :)
I’m so excited for this!
This is extremely tangential to AI, but would that extend to inkfoundry? Sometimes I worry about tagging fiction without the author knowing, especially if I'm adding warnings and stuff... but it's always from a place of promoting the story and author 😅
I have seen this claim, and not managed to replicate it myself.
Ohhhhh, I see what you're saying. But that's still story data, not personal data, which is less sellable (ironically enough), because it makes their business of catching AI and plagiarism harder, and because feed Disney in there, Disney could and would sue the literal mickey out of them.
What data though? Bluesky is more worrisome in that department. I have to vpn in here to keep my data secure.
What kind of data would they sell? I mean, yeah, I think 3rd party data sales should be illegal, but we have facebook, amazon, walmart, doordash, uber, google, even my stupid sudoku cat game to take down too 🤣 what's the difference?
Faster, quite frankly, than the slop machines themselves.
It would be a rather poor business model for pangram to train LLMs to get better. And truly, the sloppers out here violating community trust, going 'AI for me, not for thee', are _bad_. They are destroying art and art appreciation.
I still trust myself more than pangram to spot AI (mainly because I read so much), but it has been incredibly disappointing to see so much AI get into paying markets, and I do not blame magazines one bit for using pangram.
(This is what my hyperfixation has been recently 😆)
