Canadian authors, we are looking for a horror novella for 2027. If you have a complete ms in the ~18-40k range that is deliciously creepy, with carefully crafted prose and a strong eco focus, we'd love to read it. See our sub guidelines and submit to submissionsStelliform Press Please share!

Check this out. THE HUNGER OF THOSE WHO BUILT IT has been reviewed in Science!

@stelliform.pressOct 7, 2026, 4:11 PM

A science magazine reviewing a solarpunk novel? We love to see it! Wendy Waring’s THE HUNGER OF THOSE WHO BUILT IT is in Science, bringing fiction into the conversation about climate, inequality, and the futures we’re building. Thanks to author Priya Dames!

Read it here: www.science.org/doi/...

A Science magazine review displayed against a textured green moss background. Headline: “Climate unrest comes to a fictionalized France.” Subtitle: “Insiders and dissidents pursue different paths to environmental justice in near-future Paris.” The review, by Priya Dames, discusses Wendy Waring’s novel The Hunger of Those Who Built It. A small book cover appears at the upper right. A central photograph shows a Paris building covered in greenery, with pedestrians below. The review explores the novel’s climate-changed Paris, class divisions, and competing approaches to social change.

We love a resilient backlist title over here 🐙

I have to say, this weekend was so refreshing. In my teaching dayjob the continual refrain is that people don't read anymore (and this is not without evidence unfortunately) and we're reshaping curricula for very low literacy even at post-secondary. It was lovely to be around those excited to read.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a chance on a small press!

Thanks to Paul Semel for this interview with Wendy Waring about THE HUNGER OF THOSE WHO BUILT IT - from “chichi lettuce” and class vertigo to Paris’ walls, genre-crossing, grief and hope.

Beneath the headline is a cropped detail of Juliane Van Huizen’s vivid orange, purple, and teal cover art, followed by an introduction describing Waring’s eco-fiction/solarpunk novel as a story about building—or farming—a better future, a missing sister, and the relationship between personal tragedy and environmental issues.

What does legacy mean when the world is at a tipping point? On John Scalzi’s blog, Wendy Waring shares her Big Idea, tracing the journey that transformed The Hunger of Those Who Built It into a novel of climate crisis, sisterhood, & the worlds we build for those who follow.

Publication day is here! Wendy Waring’s THE HUNGER OF THOSE WHO BUILT IT is now available everywhere books are sold. Good Reading calls it “seductively spellbinding” and declares, “Debuts aren’t supposed to be this good.” We couldn’t agree more.

Beside the orange, teal and purple cover of Wendy Waring’s The Hunger of Those Who Built It is a review quote: “Waring has the unique ability to imagine a world so precisely, so believably, that it would be a surprise if it didn’t materialise. The title is the warning. This Strange Horizons review places Wendy Waring’s novel squarely in our moment of wealth inequality -- when we must decide who our society serves, what we owe one another, and what kind of future we will build.

Check out the full review here: strangehorizons.com/...

Purple promotional graphic featuring the Strange Horizons logo, the cover of Wendy Waring’s The Hunger of Those Who Built It, and the Stelliform Press logo. Text reads: “Like all the best dystopian novels, The Hunger of Those Who Built It forces readers to confront the current drift of history into disaster. Nothing about this novel is far-fetched, the science already exists, and the will to exploit our world for personal advantage is already in power. The Hunger of Those Who Built It reminds me that I know the daughter of a multi-millionaire who is building a private, secure paradise with other trust-fund babies on an island off Central America. You’ve heard such stories, too. Whatever they claim about fairness and democracy, there is a tiny element of humanity with an extraordinary sense of entitlement, and those people don’t care who gets hurt in pursuit of their comfort.” - Jan Priddy for Strange Horizons. Available everywhere books are sold.
