2015: They told me I couldn’t create my own thing, that writing in Spanglish was a bad idea, that I needed to stop mixing genres. 2026: Talking about barrio noir on RFI (Radio France Internationale) while on my third tour in France. Do what makes you happy.

Hilarious data from CDAS - Alicia noticed that the Faroe Islands are sending us a lot of traffic! And also these folks are the many-greats descendants of the Vikings. So now I have a mental "how to train your dragon" outtake of someone telling their kid "Put down that axe and pick up an ebook!"

Thirty-one mystery, thriller and horror ebooks go to 99p / 99 cents on 4 October, and Twisting Fates is one of them. Glasgow, slow-burn, DS Don Maciver. If you have been meaning to start the Specialist Crime Squad series, this is the cheap way in.

... oh, and stumble on a magical problem that they can only solve together, using all their skills.

This one's not a romance (they're all fourteen...) but it's got diverse characters (including a celebration of Holi), and at least one of them's neurodiverse.

Want some reading? I've put The Magic of Four in this sale. It's full of my love for British school stories, set at a magical school in 1946-1947 as they figure out what they want to do with their lives, which secret society they might join, and navigate all the challenges of the year.

The cover of The Magic of Four by Celia Lake on a tablet on a white background with glittering red and gold star confetti around it. The gold picks out the shade of the title block. The cover is a deep blue, with a map of the coast of Wales in the background and an astrology chart with Mercury visible in Cancer. In front of that, four students are gathered standing around a table, two boys in trousers, two girls in skirts. One of the girls is perched on the table, gesturing energetically.
