I found plenty of useful-for-my-purposes overlap. (And now my brain can chew on some details before I outline the book next weekend.)

(My goal with this is not absolute proof, but 'where does the lore cluster usefully so I can make use of a particular bit for my plot'.) The fact that my mapping includes a fairy wood and a marsh is a bonus.

@celialake.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:59 PM

Some quality time with Google My Maps, Claude Leconteaux's "Mysteries of the Werewolf", and a map of the western front, I now have reached the following: "I feel there are sufficient werewolves in the neighbourhood for my purposes."

@celialake.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 2:59 PM

Today on the authorial task list: "Cross-reference WWI fronts and werewolf lore locations."

I had my second last year (family history reasons, I'm on the 5 year plan). There are way more prep options now, so ask for options. (I am a fan of having icy drinkables, and also interestingly flavoured beef/chicken broth and suitably coloured jello for the fast day.)

In this case, we have the historically existing London clubs. But we've also got the magical community clubs (which both admit women and have varied spaces for more private conversations in sensible ways.) I think we're on the 5th chapter set in a club (out of currently 28 chapters)

@celialake.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 1:45 AM

Life of the author tonight: figuring out which of the member's clubs they're in. Again. (I swear Galahad keeps wanting a different option every time I need one.) Also me: Self, you do not care about clubs founded in years starting with 19. It is currently 1878 in your brain.

I love Tiny Glade for "I am going to spend 5 minutes making a pretty thing." (I am slowly getting better at making specific pretty things in it, that's fine.)

Having the energy today is excellent! (And also, you have cake!) But I'm also all too familiar with 'Good day? Going to regret it tomorrow? We'll find out!" science experiments.

@celialake.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 10:08 PM

My evening is alternating between the following: "History, look, the number of secret marriages and deaths on specific dates are implausible, history. How am I supposed to sell this to readers?" and "Cat, that is also a place I do not need your claws."

@celialake.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 1:53 PM

... oh, and stumble on a magical problem that they can only solve together, using all their skills.

This one's not a romance (they're all fourteen...) but it's got diverse characters (including a celebration of Holi), and at least one of them's neurodiverse.

Want some reading? I've put The Magic of Four in this sale. It's full of my love for British school stories, set at a magical school in 1946-1947 as they figure out what they want to do with their lives, which secret society they might join, and navigate all the challenges of the year.

The cover of The Magic of Four by Celia Lake on a tablet on a white background with glittering red and gold star confetti around it. The gold picks out the shade of the title block. The cover is a deep blue, with a map of the coast of Wales in the background and an astrology chart with Mercury visible in Cancer. In front of that, four students are gathered standing around a table, two boys in trousers, two girls in skirts. One of the girls is perched on the table, gesturing energetically.

I use the dicing on mine a lot (different model) but also (with the holder + chain mail glove) the mandoline for slicing lots of onions. (For either quick pickling or caramelising in the slow cooker, depending on season and desires.)

@celialake.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 7:44 PM

I'm looking forward to this so much - the first two are just delightful bits of magical lore, romance, people figuring out how to do things together.

At Home to Company (FF->FFM romance, sequel to Claiming the Tower, but readable in any order) is coming out November 6th. Available wide, so also direct from me and many other places.

It's my birthday today! I took the day off and went apple picking.

(Also getting a long-awaited extra out to my readers, and now I get to enjoy people reading and commenting, which is honestly the best.)

Now eating roast chicken, my traditional birthday meal.

@celialake.bsky.socialSep 22, 2026, 12:32 AM

I start a new file and get them out of my brain and into something more useful. And then I can decide what I do with them later. (Which for me is maybe Patreon serial, maybe magnet, maybe 'well, okay, book, I guess?) (and then sometimes it unlocks the words that were the planned ones.)
