Today is Bike Messenger Appreciation Day! From LDU, we honor and thank every NYC bike messenger who rides through all conditions to keep our city moving, reduce emissions, and ease traffic. Special shoutout to NYC BMA and all messengers out there. Solidarity always!
It takes a lot for workers to come forward to report wage theft. Because of the incredible organizing of Los Deliveristas Unidos and @workersjusticep.bsky.social, NYC workers have won important protections. But these are only meaningful if enforced.
Unsafe streets are an infrastructure failure—not an enforcement failure. On 3rd Ave in The Bronx, no bike lane means Deliveristas must ride alongside cars. NYC Council must address this as a worker safety issue and engage delivery workers in building the solutions.
"This bill will only intensify e-bike confiscation, racial profiling, massive deactivations, without addressing the infrastructure, the regulation, the lack of worker protections that workers need." — @ligiaguallpa.bsky.social, on the bill that would allow NYPD and DOT to seize non-compliant bikes
New @gothamist.com story on @NYCCouncil’s Sept. 30 hearing: 23 micromobility bills, but they fail to address the issues on our streets.

Today at @NYCCouncil, 150+ Deliveristas waited all day to be heard on 20+ micromobility bills that FAIL to address our urgent needs or the root causes of unsafe streets. @NYCCouncil: We share the goal of safer streets, but today’s package FAILS to center workers’ needs. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

What NYC's delivery workers / los deliveristas need:
1️⃣ Protected bike lanes
2️⃣ Loading zones
3️⃣ Tools to fight back against deactivations and an algorithm abusing + endangering workers

This victory is five years in the making. Los Deliveristas Unidos - @workersjusticep.bsky.social organized to win new rights, hold apps accountable, and build worker power—with the @hellodcwp.bsky.social and NYC Mayor Mamdani working alongside us to make government work for workers.
5 years of organizing by @workersjusticep.bsky.social led to a historic victory!
This win was made possible by a groundbreaking partnership w/ @hellodcwp.bsky.social - NYC Mayor, who stood with deliveristas to hold apps accountable.

Great write up by @clauirizarry.bsky.social in @thecityreporter.nyc Claudia’s coverage over the years has been essential in the fight for justice for the Deliveristas! @workersjusticep.bsky.social @mayor.nyc.gov and @bradlander.bsky.social and most importantly, the WORKERS earned this big win!
Both Z and @saalevine.bsky.social, who leads the Dept. of Consumer + Worker Protection, deserve much credit for this unprecedented settlement.
But to understand what made this win possible, one must begin the story with the organizing by @workersjusticep.bsky.social's Los Deliveristas Unidos.
When we passed the Minimum Pay Rate law in 2021, inspired by the organizing of @workersjusticep.bsky.social, we knew it would take diligent, creative, aggressive enforcement. The Mamdani Administration is showing powerfully what it looks like to govern on behalf of workers.
A must-read from story of @thecityreporter.nyc , who has covered Los Deliveristas’ organizing journey from the start. Read how five years of organizing & a strong partnership w/ @hellodcwp.bsky.social made the historic $131.5M DoorDash settlement possible.

NEW VICTORY- Deliveristas won a historic $131.5 million DoorDash settlement!
This victory belongs to the courageous workers who organized, and fought back when their wages were stolen and built a powerful union, Los Deliveristas Unidos.
Thank you, @hellodcwp.bsky.social!
"Officials at @hellodcwp.bsky.social said they would partner w @workersjusticep.bsky.social to develop software for workers to share DoorDash trips & pay data directly w officials to give the city a window into murky algorithms that workers are dependent upon for pay" www.nytimes.com/2026/09/22/n...
Proud to have joined @nycmayor
Mamdani & @DMJulieSu to launch NYC’s first Office to Organize Workers—the Mayor’s Office of Worker Power.
We look forward to working together to build worker power & pathways to unionization for immigrant + low-wage workers.

Today, we joined @hellodcwp.bsky.social to reach deliveristas, share their rights, and distribute bathroom access cards. Workers’ rights are only powerful when workers know them. ✊🏽 Proud to stand with NYC DCWP in this fight!
Thank you to @cityandstateny.bsky.social for recognizing @workersjusticep.bsky.social ED Ligia Guallpa and @LosDeliveristas leader @AjcheGustavo in the 2026 Labor Power 100!
