Cofnod Rockpooling Course was great, even if the venue had a "War of the Worlds" vibe about it! Thanks Paul and Yolanda for such an informative day. @sewbrec.org.uk @bispowys.bsky.social @wwbic1.bsky.social #nudibranch #seaslug

#RecordOfTheWeek today is this fantastic Spurilla neapolitana, also known as the 'hair curler' sea slug spotted at Oxwich by Tate Lloyd, and is new to Wales! The first UK sighting was only last year in Cornwall.

Many thanks for the record & photo, submitted via iRecord. irecord.org.uk

The photos are good enough to confirm the ID/verification so no need to retain the specimen in this case. Although microscopic examination is generally preferred for a water-tight confirmation.

Badumna longinqua for today's A-Z. New to the UK and probably spreading through plant trade. Check out your local garden centre, B+Q and especially B+M stores outdoor plant areas. You will likely find the distinctive web before any spider. Visit the BAS on YouTube for more info. #Aractober

Now we're outside the bird nesting season, our peatland restoration works are back underway at Cors y Sarnau Nature Reserve. Together with the help of three playful Carneddau ponies, we're removing saplings and scrub to keep the peat bog habitat open. πŸ’š

Rainbow Sea Slug Babakina anadoni with its prey the Hydroid Candelabrum cocksii - great find by Daisy Wood, Wembury Point, Devon at the weekend. The Olympus TG cameras are great for rockpooling able to withstand impact of being dropped on rocks and also completely waterproof - I use at TG6

Cofnod #RecordOfTheWeek is this Odiellus spinosus Harvestman by SueH. Easily recognised by its chunky body, short legs and distinct trident on the front margin of its head! Very much a lowland species. @britishspiders.bsky.social @megabunus.bsky.social

Thomas Pennant's (1726-1798) body of work spanned natural history, antiquities and travel. To celebrate his tercentenary, we've added his correspondence and catalogues to our Digital Special Collections: buff.ly/ZFULOe0. #Manuscripts #18thCentury #HistoryOfScience #HistoryOfNaturalHistory

Do you have nature records in notebooks that you never look at and wonder what to do with? I've transcribed 10,000 records from the 1960-70s from a Welsh ornithological legend into @birdtrack.bsky.social and @cofnod.org.uk.

And it was fascinating...

Some spiders from the last few days. Anypheana numida, Liocranum rupicola the Pied Stone spider and Parasteatoda spiderlings, P.tepidariorum? Also possible new site for what is likely Helpis. For size it has a small fruit fly. @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @sewbrec.org.uk

Yes moving fast in the UK. Adding the additional verified "iRecord" and "iNaturalist" records to the SRS records suggests it could turn up anywhere in Southern Britain these days. Keep your eyes peeled!

@britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk A quick stop-off in Wales, to find a spider that I've yet to see in England. It always surprises me just how well such a big spider can 'hide in plain sight' on bare stone Arctosa cinerea is always a sight to behold
