What's happening here? Maybe something changed part way through 2023 on urban/residential 30mph roads! I wonder if it could be that from Sep 17th 2023 95% of roads with a 30mph limit were changed to 20mph. #20splenty making your place an even better, safer, quieter, fairer place to be!

A semi-aerial photograph over a wide, four-lane road flanked by large sandstone houses; there are many trees and bushes in their front gardens, and the street is fairly quiet in terms of traffic, flanked by bollarded cycleways under a bright sky with large, fluffy white clouds.

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

A person rides a bike up a sunlit street in the evening; a pedestrian waits to cross outside of a classic pub frontage for ‘The Conan Doyle’ with a black facade and golden trim, with hanging plants outside. The weather is dry, and in the background we can see rising sandstone and glass shops and offices under a blue sky, as well as the steps leading up to a cathedral building as passers-by pass by.

Thank you to everyone who got in touch about the frustrating closure of the vital bridge at St Mark's Park. This is a lifeline route for the community on both sides and has massive impacts on access to the park, walking, cycling, the school & local businesses 1/3

An insight into cycling trends - the introduction of Voi bikes has added about 500 additional cyclists per day to Leith Walk; the tram closure added another 250 at the peak. The Voi effect is much larger at the weekend, while the inverse is true for the tram.

There's something amazing about being in a peloton of 40+ bikes on the cycle lane heading home. Every driver at the front of a queue of side-street traffic... every person peering out of a bus window... every passer-by gets the message: "Oh wow, yeah, people are using this stuff". Never gets old.

My view travelling home by bike: Loads of people cycling on the South City Way cycle lane on Victoria Road in Govanhill in the Southside of Glasgow, during evening rush hour. A woman in front of me wears an incredibly fetching gold coloured helmet.

1/ 🚧 St Mark’s Path bridge: still closed, still waiting for answers There was frustration at Monday night’s LCCC meeting about the continuing closure of the bridge. The concern is also the lack of clear information about what failed, options considered and speed of reopening

Already highly flawed - pavement and bike lane not very raised, no Dutch kerb on the exit, Edinburgh’s insistence of not using proper colour for bike lanes AND left turn into traffic lights you can’t see - this is now even worse.

Cycling by Design is pretty clear on this:

“The footway material and colour on approach to the junction should be maintained across the side road and should visually contrast with the nearby carriageway.”

www.transport.gov.scot/publication/...

@stephenjenkinson.bsky.social can this be rectified?

@leithfeederride.bsky.socialSep 21, 2026, 8:53 PM

The broken paving on the continuous footway at Dalmeny St / Leith Walk has been repaired with tarmac, undermining the whole design. It now looks like pedestrians and cyclists are crossing a road, rather than drivers crossing a continuous footway.

Thanks for the response Jack – would you be able to clarify what the remaining work actually covers?

Thanks for the response Katrina – I think Edward's map is showing people who’ve already made requests and are on the waiting list.

My question was more about whether anything can be done to increase cycle hangar provision to meet that demand, particularly in Leith?

Hi @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social – any update on the outstanding actions for Elm Row you mentioned a few months ago? Lots of the issues persist and work remains unfinished.
