When AI agents go rogue, who's liable?

@hartzog.bsky.social warns of "massive liability on both the criminal and civil side." @rcalo.bsky.social flags the gap: negligence and intent are hard to prove with unpredictable AI, leaving "victims without perpetrators."

Wow, reading these words about #DemocratizingAI from @rcalo.bsky.social (@uwlaw.bsky.social) means the world to me—I keep learning a huge amount from the law&tech community & esp Ryan’s absolutely pathbreaking work. I am so inspired by #techlaw scholarship &want #philosophers to be in dialogue w/it!

Here's a post from our 2024 operations documenting an earlier version of this framework. We added the "no evidence" category during post-hoc analysis, because so many 2024 rumors were broad, un-evidenced claims about the 2020 election being "rigged". www.cip.uw.edu/2024/09/09/2...

Banning "superintelligent" 🤢 AI plays right into industry rhetoric and keeps the focus off immediate, real world harms such as privacy, bias, and labor. Literally the same name of the silly Bostrom book everyone was reading 12 years ago.
