In a political climate where agreement feels rare and some levels of government are busy trying to pump the brakes on bike lanes, #BikeDayOnTheHill proved that everyday cycling is something every party can get behind. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Four Olympic medals are impressive, but a 3-peat in the Parliamentary Slow Bike Challenge? Legendary. 🥇

Huge congrats to Secretary of State for Sport @vankayak on taking last place to win it all three years running!

That's why we are calling on cyclists in the national capital region to show up at Bike Day on the Hill on behalf of their fellow Canadians to send the message that continued federal leadership to help fund great places to ride is essential.

Knowing your legal rights is vital, but the ultimate shield for a cyclist will always be the built environment. 🚲🛡️

At our AGM legal AMA with Professor Christopher Waters, moderated by board member Dr. Jaimy Fischer, Prof. Waters emphasized that while Canadian law offers essential protections, safe infrastructure is what truly protects riders on the road. That principle remains central to our work at Vélo Canada Bikes.

For those interested in rules of the road, crash protocols, theft prevention, e-bike regulations, or organizing cycling groups, the newly released 3rd edition of Prof. Waters’ book, Every Cyclist's Guide to Canadian Law, is the definitive resource for navigating cycling law in Canada. Prof. Waters is generously donating 100% of his author proceeds directly to Vélo Canada Bikes. 📖🇨🇦 https://lnkd.in/gEZ2WADw

Following the guest presentation, Board Chair Kate Walker presented a summary of the past year’s federal advocacy, knowledge mobilization, and support for local initiatives. Kate also celebrated Dr. Sara FL Kirk for her nearly ten years of distinguished service as she concludes her tenure on the board.

The membership elected the incoming Board of Directors: Joseph Torres (non-profit professional and fundraiser) and Robert Zaichkowski, CPA, CMA (accounting pro and Toronto cycling advocate) were added to the team. Kate Walker was re-elected for a two-year term. They join returning board members Eleanor F., Jaimy Fischer, Kathryn Manners, Kimberley Nelson, Rudolph Damas, and Zvi Leve, MSc.

Following the close of the official AGM agenda, Executive Director Samuel Benoit then provided an update on progress since March and outlined key national projects currently in development.

If you have not yet joined our movement, now’s the time. By becoming a member today, you directly advance our efforts to build a safer, more connected, and bicycle-friendly Canada.
