Nothing takes away from the reduction in air pollution the ULEZ achieved though.
The landmark CHILL study, led by @qmul.bsky.social, found that cutting #AirPollution from traffic helped restore children's lung growth. ❤️

We’re a UK network seriously concerned about #AirPollution’s impact on children’s health. All welcome, not just mums. Get in touch: [email protected]

The report notes that DEFRA changed the model behind the assessment this year. So what’s changed: the air itself, or how it’s modelled? We’re digging into the data to find out. #CleanAir
NEW: DEFRA’s 2025 compliance assessment shows Greater London has illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), after being declared compliant in 2024.
According to DEFRA, Bristol and Glasgow are the only other UK zones that exceed the NO2 legal limits. #AirPollution
Good question - it doesn't look like it from the webpage, but there's a contact email if you want to email them to find out?
Want a quick snapshot of how widely WHO air quality guidelines are being exceeded at the government's monitoring sites?
@ukaq.co.uk brings together data from multiple sensor networks. Over the past year, over 90% of government sites were above the WHO yearly guideline for PM2.5. ukaq.co.uk
Bromley Council is consulting on its Air Quality Action Plan until 18th October. Make sure you have your say!
Air pollution in #Bromley has been rising - and the draft plan is too weak to tackle it significantly. Use our guidance to respond by 18th October - it takes 5 minutes.
Worth a listen: the @theguardian.com's Science Weekly podcast covers the health impacts of cleaning products - and how we're only just getting to grips with what indoor #AirPollution is doing to our bodies and brains. Great points from both @rebeccasealwriter.bsky.social and @madifinlay.bsky.social.
We had a fantastic night celebrating so many great organisations. Huge congrats to @cashforkids.bsky.social Manchester for winning the Most Inspiring Campaign award! And a big shout-out to @dianneoxberrytrust.bsky.social, who were nominated alongside us. @mcrcommcentral.bsky.social #SpiritofMcr26 💚

It’s almost time! Our Greater Manchester Coordinator @lizgdfy.bsky.social is at the Spirit of Manchester Awards ceremony tonight. Liz has been nominated for the Inspiring Campaign award! Fingers crossed. @mcrcommcentral.bsky.social #SpiritofMcr
We're really excited for this Imperial College event on ethics and air pollution, where our Barnet volunteer Dr Beth Wan will be speaking alongside Sir Stephen Holgate, Prof Chris Whitty and @metecoban92.bsky.social. Friday 20th Nov at 12:15pm - register now!
We're keeping our fingers crossed that the High Court grants permission next week for lawyers to appeal this case. July's judgment noted that if an alternative approach to the meaning of “defeat device” were taken, a larger number of defeat devices would be established. Watching with interest 👀 .
Interesting insights here from @cyclinguk.bsky.social. Good to see that one of their YouGov polls this year revealed that 70% of people support #SchoolStreets - but think that only 49% of others do. Also interesting to see common misperceptions around the popularity of cycle routes and speed limits.
Diesel prices are at an all-time high, and there are still almost 10m diesel cars on our roads. The government needs to do more to accelerate the switch to cleaner transport - both to support the cost of living and to reduce #AirPollution. #ZEVMandate
So glad to see this #AirPollution teaching toolkit. We need health professionals to be engaging with and advising patients on the sources and #Health impacts of air pollution, and how they can reduce their exposure and contribution.
The diesel scandal isn’t over.
Since 2009, there have been 30,000 new cases of childhood asthma in the UK because of excess diesel emissions. Without action there’ll be thousands more.
Watch our film, then email our leaders.
Wood burning has definitely started again in my area. We had the windows open last night and the house stank of smoke - it was dark so we don’t know who is burning. We need much better public health messaging about this issue so everyone can understand the damage they are doing when they light up!
What you said!
Liz really enjoyed presenting at the @ategov.bsky.social conference this week, sharing thoughts on #SchoolStreets and the importance of collaborative working across all sectors. If we’re serious about creating safer, healthier journeys to school, it takes everyone working together 💚. #MAP2026
Good to see @emmahardymp.bsky.social confirming that work on an updated #AirQuality Strategy starts this year, and stating it should aim for continuous improvement, not just legal compliance.
UK legal limits are still 4x WHO guidelines. The job of cleaning up our air is far from done. @uk100.org
