And you! Fingers crossed for Eastercon xo
Also, considering the discussions around this today, I've had to post the following.
Everyone knows the Loch Ness Monster is famous for being Scottish, Ancient, Elusive and Great With Woollens.
Bluesky is not the place to get into the weeds of a nuanced debate like creativity and AI in futher detail, but I hope that this makes my position clear in this case.
Also, to get ahead of this - yes, I did share a reading slot with Peter F. Hamilton, and no, I didn't know about this. I think my stance on AI has nuance, but I think I have been clear (here and at the weekend) that I don't approve of projects where the majority of creative work is done by AI.
This is news to some people, so I present to you:
Peter F. Hamilton. Conn Iggulden. David W. Ball. R. A. Salvatore. All people who made a good living from writing.
@lyndseycroal.bsky.social Thank you for signing my book when I had to rush off to moderate. Lovely to see you!
Well done that man! That's a job that must take some steel overall, to be honest.
That is a bizarre read, in all honesty.
Shoutout to @grimdarkmagazine.bsky.social from @annasmithspark.bsky.social before @alasdairstuart.com drops the line of the weekend
"Do the work you love, honestly and consistently. The networking will take care of itself, the work won't." #fantasycon
It seems to be true.
I realise "Death to AI" doesn't loan itself to nuance. I didn't choose the name, and we did argue for beneficial uses under specific conditions. But at an event with a ton of authors whose work was stolen by Anthropic, saying you're involved in a project taking work from other creatives is silly.
I was on the Death to AI panel yesterday with Donna Scott, Geoff Ryman, Stephen Cox and Chris McCartney (Bona Books).
*If this news is true* then the audience reactions we got indicate this is a terrible move

Hello! Not at #Fantasycon today because October is Octobering hard and I have a book to finish.
But! That makes this a good time to thank Shona Kinsella and the rest of the organizers and volunteers for giving us such a fab weekend. And under an hour from my bed? Magic!

NGL I have genuinely struggled this year with the number of great people doing genuinely amazing work across different categories of the BFS Awards. I would have had such an issue being on one of the juries. So thank you to those folks too! @britfantasysoc.bsky.social
And huge congratulations to all the longlisted and shortlisted folks. What a wonderful reading/watching/listening list you've given us!
Congrats also to alumna Annabel Campbell (Best Newcomer) and friend of the Circle C.L.Hellisen (Best Audio Fiction, Best Short Story)!
Massive congratulations to our Christopher Caldwell on winning Best Collection for Call and Response, and to Jenni Coutts on winning Best Artist (a great way to mark her stepping down from BFS Horizons as art editor)!
