People protesting changes to 🇩🇪's Grids package and Renewable Energy Sources Act today are clear: expand, don’t slow down!
In Neumünster, BürgerEnergie Nord shows how grid digitalisation delays can stop communities benefiting from rooftop solar & lowering their bills.

Winter is coming, but the million euro question is are we ready for it?
Our webinar with @eurcorrespond.bsky.social @e3g.bsky.social @wemeanbusiness.bsky.social @ember-energy.org @vznrwenergie.bsky.social takes a look at how prepared we are for the upcoming months.

Think you know your queues? You might know a few of these, but wait until you get to grips with the €100B worth of renewables projects stuck in grid connection queues across Europe.
Read more on why clean energy projects are stuck waiting to connect to the grid👇

#COP31 needs to accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels.
Instead, its co-presidencies are partners in coal.
New @350.org report finds Australia & Türkiye’s coal trade has generated ~75 Mt of CO₂ since 2016. Neither even has a coal phaseout date. Leadership starts at home.

Plans for new gas plants in Romania stalled while costs rose. Meanwhile, batteries sped ahead, with storage going from virtually zero in 2024 to 1.09 GW by Sept 2026, nearly hitting its 2030 target four years early.
The alternative to new gas capacity is already here.

Gas shortages, high gas prices, the energy crisis & what it means for households this winter - we discussed it all in our latest webinar with @eurcorrespond.bsky.social, @ember-energy.org, @wemeanbusiness.bsky.social & @vznrwenergie.bsky.social.

It was Bulgaria’s battery boom that helped keep electricity flowing this summer when drought hit nuclear & hydropower.
So why is the EU still backing expensive gas capacity, like Germany's gas-favouring capacity mechanism proposal?

One sector's rubbish is another one's riches.
"More than €100 billion of renewables are effectively waiting to connect to the grid, delaying access to solar panels & heat pumps for Europeans grappling with skyrocketing energy bills."
But old EV batteries could help.

Europe’s energy security shouldn’t depend on fossil fuels, especially not ones from countries whose leaders threaten Europe.

But in 2025, 71% of TotalEnergies’ LNG imports to the EU & UK came from the US and Russia.

Increased ambition for electrification is good, but not at the cost of more fossil fuels. We joined 90+ orgs in calling on #COP31 hosts to make sure more renewables can meet the extra demand and data centre boom doesn’t hijack efforts to phase out coal and gas. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/09/24/e...

There is little evidence to suggest AI can lead to emissions reductions.
A new report by @ketanjoshi.co and a consortium of climate groups has found Nvidia’s indirect emissions have risen by a dramatic 725% since 2020.

With its 35-by-35 pledge, the Turkish Presidency wants electrification at the heart of #COP31.
A step change in the pace of transition is just what this moment demands.
But a pledge with no out guardrails could be a backdoor for more fossil fuel-powered demand.

War drives up gas & oil prices, fossil fuel companies profit, household bills rise.
Does that seem fair?
With elections in 8 EU countries next year, ministers should take the opportunity to put people over profits this Friday and hold fossil fuel companies to account.

💥 Big news! 💥 The Scottish Parliament has voted to pause all new plans for AI hyperscale data centres for up to a year, until the Scottish Government develops a national strategy.

This is de facto the first real European moratorium on hyperscale data centres. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

🚨BREAKING: New report by @ketanjoshi.co finds NVIDIA’s indirect emissions have risen 725% since 2020.
Reminder, there is no evidence to say AI is a net benefit for climate, and Europe can't lock itself into more fossil gas to power data centres for Big Tech profits.

Less hot air, more winds of change.

Some of Europe’s policymakers are starting to push back on the idea that Big Tech’s data centre boom should dictate our energy priorities.

It's a simple reality: people’s access to clean, affordable power has to come first.

Fossil fuel profit taxation needs to be on #Ecofin's agenda this month.
Our tax system should signal that fossil fuels aren’t a part of Europe’s future.
🇩🇪, 🇦🇹, 🇮🇹, 🇵🇱, & 🇵🇹 have already asked, and 🇪🇸 is now doubling down & asking for a dedicated EU climate adaptation fund.

“GAS IS A SCAM” say Greenpeace activists in Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.

Plans for new gas extraction in the Khan Tervel block risk locking in fossil fuels, harming marine life and benefiting fossil fuel corporations like Shell & OMV-Petrom.

Electrification is essential, but it can’t replace binding EU targets for renewables and energy efficiency.
As @caneurope.org argues, Europe needs all three:
1️⃣ more renewable-based electricity
2️⃣ greater efficiency
3️⃣ a clear fossil fuel phase-out plan
🔗 caneurope.org/app/uploads/...

@beyondfossilfuels.bsky.socialSep 4, 2026, 11:17 AM

Coal phase-out is inevitable, but Poland lagging behind. Closing the coal units at Dolna Odra is a step in the right direction. Replacing them with gas isn’t. Gas is another expensive, polluting fossil fuel. The path to lower bills & energy security is renewables & a robust grid to deliver them.
