One of the largest right-wing-extremist conspiracy accounts on X is the prediction market PolyMarket, and it really makes you wonder how this may affect the accuracy & calibration of their prices.

Good read from @gelliottmorris.com this morning. All of Cook Political Report tends to be on the hackier side, but it has been kind of notable how much Charlie Cook himself has gone out on a limb to demonstrate that he's doing pro-GOP wishcasting in the face of data that doesnt conform to his priors

Strength In Numbers
Charlie Cook says
there's no "blue wave." I think he's wrong.
Plus, Democrats are winning the ad war despite the GOP's cash edge. Your weekly political data roundup for October 11, 2026.

OCT 111. "Blue wave" or "red undertow"?
I was hesitant to write about this subject at first, but unfortunately it keeps coming up. I have read/heard this argument referenced several times online, on TV, and in person now, which clears the bar for issuing A Take.

A good summation of David Brooks and "civility" politics generally: no one on the right-wing can ever be described honestly, while everyone who isn't on the right-wing is always portrayed as a radical breaking cherished norms.

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

Years ago I wrote this essay, and the clamor for compromise and one-sided pandering marches on, and of course David Brooks is a standard-bearer in the parade. As Jamelle Bouie notes, what if they are Nazis?

Writing something where I will be liberally citing @lilymasonphd.bsky.social's latest and realizing that I can't cite every single thing I would like to because then I'm just reprinting her work. So, I've gotta thread about it instead.

Americans have never been angrier with one another. But polarization is not the disease—it is the response to a revanchist movement seeking to roll back sixty years of social progress.

Ironically, the White House Media ban should remind journalists to center American democracy - rather than the President. Sure "access journalism" has its place, but when power is being consolidated in the Executive Branch as it is now, access journalism can reinforce autocratization.

And here’s the opposite of democracy-framed reporting. Trump didn’t “bow” to pressure from a federal judge. He followed a court order to reinstate media access.
