I don't want to use it at all 🤷🏽‍♂️

This is one reason why you shouldn’t upload work into LLMs during the peer review and grading processes. That work is confidential, and you have no right to share it without permission. You are taking someone’s intellectual property and giving it to the entire world without their consent.

I'd even say there's no such thing as the "non-political," but yes. Also this part: "Second, the critical tradition and the associated contextual approaches to the nonpolitical offer important inspiration for improving operationalization in empirically oriented political communication research."

"Scholars should carefully assess the research context and use those suggestive labels such as 'non-political' in a more thoughtful way ... The nonpolitical...is often theoretically rich and frequently intertwined with the political."

Same thing with “the ways in which” -> “how”

Also, there’s value in people being able to write. And not just in 80-minute blocks in a blue book, but being able to communicate in written form some information that they have to think about and pore over and convey in longer form. Seems we’re giving up on that with in-person oral/written exams.

The combat correspondents and combat camera Marines who worked for me would have plenty of candid pics of Marines and sailors, too. We just usually wouldn’t publish them. Again, no way to know either way, and frankly this is a silly thing to go back and forth about.

Combat correspondents/photographers/videographers document training exercises as well. The location of the photos has nothing to do with who took them.

For sure, we don’t know. But not at all unreasonable that he was a military-trained photographer rather than just some guy with a camera screwing around.

“The U.S. Department of Defense funded the production and distribution of a strategy video game during its occupation of Iraq...There was never any attribution of the real video game maker, allegedly to enhance its credibility among its Iraqi users.”

If he was a combat correspondent or photographer, he would have received training as such. Today, Defense Information School provides extensive training, plus you’re always perfecting on the job. I worked with some incredibly talented photographers when I was in.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

@lilymasonphd.bsky.social spitting truth:

From this perspective, the “both sides” frame falls apart. The problem is not that the parties are divided. The problem is the existential threat that a reempowered ethnonationalist strain poses to pluralistic U.S. democracy writ large. The current level of political animosity is exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s citizens. The only way to re-oppress most of a country is to use anti-democratic and authoritarian tactics. And the only way to oppose those tactics is to push back as a population and clearly reject them. This is the argument happening in the United States, and its pathology is not anger—it is the movement to undermine a generation of rights.

One of the foremost scholars of polarization in the world is telling us that polarization is the wrong concept to apply to the contemporary United States...so maybe don't do that

You know those (rare) papers that really make you proud?

In new piece out at APR, we show that #AffectivePolarization likely spills onto other types of non-political polarization - notably, PREFERENCES FOR CATS VS. DOGS (aka “affective PAWlarization”)
