Updated book tour dates! There are many details that don’t fit on this graphic, like fiddlers, amazing bookstores who will be on site with books (& even crafts!) and the fact that I will be loading up my Subaru with a keg of Beer Ghosts Cream Ale to bring to Dovetail, Turtle Stack, & Earth Rider.

It's like how umfahren has two meanings in German, depending how you emphasise it, with the added bonus that the two meanings are polar opposites.

One of my favourite neighbourhood things is when someone sprayed some inspirashunal make u fink graffiti on the side of a house: "What have you ever truly loved?" And within days another graffiti artist had responded with: "Your mum."

After I completed @akrennmair.bsky.social’s excellent Bavarian White Beer, I had many questions about the author behind the book. Andreas is doing wonderful, essential historical research, and I wanted to know more about his background, life, and process.

My favourite Schneider beer these days, especially after a great session at Weißes Brauhaus im Tal, is Schneider Festweisse. That extra hoppiness just adds something very special that improves the drinkability even more.

Shameless plug: if you also want to be reminded about how great Bavarian Weißbier can be, you can get my book "Bavarian White Beer": waizenbier.de

My third stop of the day is Kelheim for Schneider Weisse TAP 7 Original at the Weisses Bräuhaus.

Big shout-out to my pal @akrennmair.bsky.social for his excellent book 'Bavarian White Beer', which reminded me just how great Bavarian Weißbier can be.

I had actually brewed a few 8° beers over the last few years, just not 2025/26. So my plan for 2027 is to brew an 8° hopped to at least 40 IBU with Austrian Malling hops. Just to see how far I can push this with relatively little body.

Here’s @evanrail.bsky.social on the evolving scene in Czechia.

“With more than 40 IBUs but only about 3 percent ABV, Únětický’s version might be the apex of the hoppy-but-light trend. Hostomice’s 7°P Fabián clocks in with a similarly humulone-heavy ratio of 33 IBUs and just 2.9 percent ABV.”

I'm a little sad that the Zoigl chapter of my Bavarian beer adventure has come to an end. But it's okay because I'm currently in Regensburg, where the local Export Dunkel is going down nicely.

In Django Unchained, Dr. King Schultz uses a beer engine (a hand pump) as if it were a keg tap to pour two beers.

I looked a bit into how the Upper Austrian hop industry recovered after WW2, and also tried to identify the exact origin of the Austrian-grown Malling hops.

The Schneider Festweisse is most definitely very different. 😅 Also the Hohenthanner Märzen and the Ayinger Märzen, assuming you got a Lidl box.

I've not had a single Donzoko beer that wasn't well-crafted, even the seemingly gimmicky ones. (FTR, I only ever had their beers in cans)

Drinking Zoiglbier in Windischeschenbach.

My beery adventure through the Oberpfalz starts today and was inspired by a fantastic article written by @tempestinatankard.bsky.social published in @pelliclemag.com

Very much enjoyed my first cask conditioned real ale in Seoul, South Korea. Joe, the brewery owner at Ashtree brewery, used to work at Redemption and Partizan and we spent time in Belgium together about a decade ago. Was in tip top condition, obvs!

A glass of dark strong ale with Ashtree brewery's logo on the glass. Unsurprisingly, this is an Ash tree.

Amazing. And if a movie had depicted reentry like this, we'd have probably said it looked unrealistic.

The only reason why I, as an Austrian, know about the Trapp family is because I worked near Salzburg for a few years and lived in hotels during the week, and they all advertise Sound of Music tours, a film virtually unknown in Austria.
