We passed the badlands around 3am, heatwave still on our heels. Opalescent halo around the moon, scent of sun-dry grass below. Starshine and eyeshine mirrored each other, and somewhere between the two was us.

It had been a while since I remembered how to pin insects, and this is definitely the biggest specimen I’ve ever handled. It took a few tweaks on the spreading board, but I eventually got the process done! 🌿
