#MatthewShepard, a gay student at the #UniversityOfWyoming, was savagely beaten and left tied to a wooden fence post on #ThisDayInHistory in 1998. He died five days later. His death brought renewed attention to the perennial violence used against the #LGBTQIA community in the US.
