The #trails in #Adirondack_Park. #New_York are often challenging. #photography #Support_Public_Lands #forest #boulders #moss

Andi, in an orange rain shell, is picking her way on the mossy boulder strewn trail. This forest trail is taking us to Lost Pond where we ate lunch in the light rain.

Today we're looking at the Middle Falls in #Letchworth #State_Park, #New_York. The railroad bridge and the mist from the Upper Falls from yesterday's photo are in the background. #photography #Genesee_River #Support_Public_Lands #waterfalls #gorge

The early evening sky was very cooperative giving contrasting color to the deep green of the forest and highlights to the Genesee River

The Upper Falls in #Letchworth #State_Park, #New_York #photography #Support_Public_Lands #B&W #monochrome

A railroad bridge crosses the Genesee River a few hundred yards / meters above, in distance not height, the Upper Falls. The clouds were casting a shadow over the entire scene, but there was some clear sky at the left of the image. Even though the light was not ideal I liked the composition.

#Roaring_Falls weren't living up to their name when we visited them a few days ago. #Adirondack_Park, #Keene_Valley, #New_York #photography #Support_Public_Lands #waterfall

Trees frame a granite rock face. In the openning at the top of the trees the upper falls can be seen. The lower cascade is behind the trees on the right. In the early spring when the snow is melting the falls must be a noisy place. At the end of summer when we were there, not so much.

One of the high points of hiking is to find a great place to eat lunch. We found this one overlooking the Big Bend in #Letchworth State Park, in #New_York #photography #Support_Public_Lands #PBJ

I am holding up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and my floppy hiking hat. We were in the shade, and the opposite side of the Genesse River gorge is in the sunlight.

A small wild bee is gathering nectar and pollinating a yellow flower.

Two years ago today, we were on the rocky fossil laden #beach at #Cape_Enrage, #New_Brunswick, #Canada on the #Bay_of_Fundy. I made very small adjustments to make the photo #B&W. #photography #Support_Public_Lands

This was almost a monochrome photo of a very rocky beach without post processing. The gray ocean and a mosty overcast sky are on the upper right. A dark bolder and gray slate rocks are in the foreground. The upper left side is a gray, tall, and long cliff. The cliff is the source of the rocks and fossils on the beach.

There is nothing wrong with your monitor. Do not attempt to adjust the picture.... #photography #Support_Public_Lands #Musée_Rodin #Paris #Auguste_Rodin #garden

Standing in the Rodin Museum seven years ago today, I looked out at the gardens through a very old window. The glass had bubbles and was not uniform. So I took a picture of the gardens and another wing of the building through the wavy glass, or I took a picture of the wavy glass with the garden and museum in the background.

What time was it when we visited the #Royal_Observatory?
#Greenwich, #London, England, #United_Kingdom #photography #Support_Public_Lands

The bronze sculpture of two dolphins holding a plaque is a sundial. Their tails are the gnomon. If you look closely you can see what time it was when I took the photo. It was a fascinating place. The displays of the chronometers which were crucial to the measurement of longitude were worth the visit alone, but there is much more there.

Indiana rocks
Indiana rocks!
Indiana rocks?
On this date six years ago, I was working on building a #hiking #trail at #Cagles_Mill_Dam with the #Hoosier_Hikers_Council. Not only does #Indiana have rocks it also has hills. #geology #photography #Support_Public_Lands #B&W #monochrome

The Welch Trail takes the hiker through hills, ravines, up a sandstone cliff face, and through old growth forest. The Two Falls Trail is a hilly hike that has views of the lake as well as two ephemeral waterfalls. This photo is on the Welch Trail passing by the top of the cliff. More information about the trails can be found at the HHC link.

Two statues carved from granite are wearing two different crowns. The head in the foreground is wearing the crown of Lower Egypt. The head in the background has the crown of the unified crown of Upper and Lower Egypt.

A #memorial #garden in #Morton-in-Marsh is dedicated to Diana Rowden. She was stationed for a time near this village. Rowden was sent into occupied France during WW2. After her capture she was executed. #England, #United_Kingdom #photography #Support_Public_Lands

This is the inscription on the memorial bench in this small garden:

In memory of a very courageous young lady
SOE Diana Rowden, MBE, C d G

I see these at the edges of the woods and along the road, but I never knew what it was until I took this photo with my phone and pressed the info button. If you're not familiar with it, meet the blue mistflower, Conoclinium coelestinum. #native_plants #wildflower #photography #Support_Public_Lands

The mistflower is a member of the aster family. The blue blooms look more like starburst fireworks than stars to me.

Waiting for the #storm that never showed up. #clouds #photography #Support_Public_Lands

Sitting on a deck we were watching dark storm clouds roll in. They only produced sprinkles.

The #Point_Wolfe #River and the #Bay_of_Fundy beyond. #Fundy_National_Park #New_Brunswick #Canada #B&W #monochrome #photography #Support_Public_Lands

The tree covered hills frame the Point Wolfe River in the lower part of the photo. Beyond the hills is the Bay of Fundy. A mostly cloudy sky muted the colors so this became a monochrome shot.

A bridge over a creek in #Buttermilk_Falls #State_Park, #Ithaca, #New_York. #photography #Support_Public_Lands #B&W #monochrome

I took this photo of a footbridge over a creek when the light was very harsh. I liked the shapes but the shadows were too deep. I processed it into a black and white shot and was able to bring out details in the shadows.

Taking a break from hiking to picture #Pictured_Rocks_National_Lakeshore on #Lake_Superior, in the Upper Peninsula of #Michigan #photography #Support_Public_Lands

Lake Superior is a fresh water sea. It is huge and its waves erode the cliffs of this area into arches, caves and other shapes. A woman (AndiF) is sitting on a point of land overlooking the lake taking a photo. We are officially on a vacation because she has a strap on her glasses.
