The Letchworth Park's gardeners and arborists framed the stone stairway to the path by Middle Falls. It makes it feel like a portal to another world, maybe Middle Earth.

Highly eroded cliffs line this section of the Genesee River. The cliffs are mostly layers of shale. The shapes remind me of those we have seen in the Chinle and Moenkopi formations on the Colorado Plateau. At the top of the image is the Hitchin Hackspace "H" logo in the centre of a circle. The H is at 45 degrees and the character has a square outline. The words "Hitchin Hackspace", along with the H in the circle, are laser engraved on to an A4 sized sheet of Birch plywood. It should be at the pub, to help identify us, providing one of our members remembers to bring it!🤦‍♂️

The Civilian Conservation Corps, #CCC, built this #bridge across the gorge below the Lower Falls of the #GeneseeRiver in #Letchworth State Park, #NewYork during the #GreatDepression. #photography #SupportPublicLands #waterfall

A stone bride spans a river. Two people are on the bridge looking at the falls. The bridge is about 100 feet (30 m) long. It is the only way to cross the river inside the park. This is another example of the CCC's work on public lands. The arch was built by first erecting wooden trusses to support the stonework. The museum at the park has a good photo display of the bridge's construction.

A curving stone wall borders the hiking trail and the road above the gorge at Letchworth. Much of the stonework at the park like so many other parks was done in the 1930 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The museum at the park has an excellent room on the CCC's legacy at the park. Many of our state and national parks benefitted from this progressive program to help families during the Great Depression. See if there were CCC programs near you. https://ccclegacy.org/camp-lists

The early evening sky was very cooperative giving contrasting color to the deep green of the forest and highlights to the Genesee River

A railroad bridge crosses the Genesee River a few hundred yards / meters above, in distance not height, the Upper Falls. The clouds were casting a shadow over the entire scene, but there was some clear sky at the left of the image. Even though the light was not ideal I liked the composition.

One of the high points of hiking is to find a great place to eat lunch. We found this one overlooking the Big Bend in #Letchworth State Park, in #New_York #photography #Support_Public_Lands #PBJ

I am holding up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and my floppy hiking hat. We were in the shade, and the opposite side of the Genesse River gorge is in the sunlight.
