Quick Math Challenge | Can You Solve This Math Problem?

Quick subtraction tip: stop counting back.

9 minus 5? Ask "5 plus what makes 9?"

Research shows kids who think addition get faster and more accurate on subtraction facts. Button Cat cards make the practice ridiculously cute. 🐱

Here’s my attempt for #PostProcess #Subtraction

I really struggled with ideas this week ☹️

Original photo by @rjrock.bsky.social

Subtracted everything but the platform and one man. Then subtracted the colour. Processed in Photoshop Express and TouchRetouch

1st image was my “proper” attempt. Other 2, my curiosity got me wondering what my—long time tinkering with—WIP ‘daytime glow’ & ‘evening glow’ styles (presets) would look like.

Black and white photo of a train approaching a train station platform. The train is on one of a number of tracks, next to it another train is passing. Beside the tracks, opposite the platform, are a number of industrial buildings. The photo was taken by @rjrock.bsky.social and was processed by me.

The image was edited in Darktable…

I upped the exposure a little in the Exposure module. But only a smidge. I didn’t want to lose the definition of the clouds and upping it more than a smidge blew out the sky.

Then I cropped the image - in all honesty, I did so by playing around with the crop box rather randomly (set to the original image’s aspect ratio) until I got an idea of a crop I liked.

I converted the image to black and white, using the HP5 preset on the Colour Calibration Module (it’s by far the easiest method to convert an image to black and white in Darktable, and it almost always does a good job).

Then I used the Colour Balance RGB module to make small adjustments to the contrast of the image.

I activated the Tone Equaliser module, setting it to ‘strong’.

Then I activated the Local Contrast module, leaving it at its default settings.

Finally, I activated the Filmic module, leaving it at its default settings.Photo of a train approaching a train station platform. The image was edited in Darktable using my ‘daytime glow’ style (preset)…

I manually upped the exposure a little in the Exposure Module. I only upped it a smidge as I didn’t want to lose the definition of the clouds and upping it more than a smidge blew out the sky.

Then I cropped the image - in all honesty, I did so by playing around with the crop box rather randomly (set to the original image’s aspect ratio) until I got an idea of a crop I liked.

Then I applied my ‘daytime glow’ style:

It activated the Colour Balance RGB module - I then went in and manually made small adjustments to things such as global chroma and saturation based on the image.

Then it activated the Colour Zones module, setting chroma and lightness to a fairly pleasing default - I then went in and made some small adjustments manually.

It then activates the Filmic module, with the settings set to default as that is almost always the best.

It activates the Local Contrast module, with the settings set to default as it’s usually sufficient.

Finally, it added a colour toned graduated density filter in the Graduated Density module - which I went into and made some minor adjustments based on the image.Photo of a train approaching a train station platform. Thank you to @rjrock.bsky.social for this weeks #PostProcess challenge #Subtraction

#ECK #EastCoastKin

I used Snapseed for my subtraction editing.

Using Snapseed, I cropped and flipped the photo. I edited out the power lines. I used halation, auto adjusted the brightness, and used curves.

On Snapseed , I used Brush, Healing, and Double Exposure to add a sunrise.

This was a fun exercise. I used some of Adobe's removal tools (which are AI based) to subtract the cables and wires. It did an ok job. I spent some time hand fixing the artifacts.

Next target: the big blue screen. I got creative

There were a bunch of edits, and I did this a couple of days ago, so I won't remember them all.

First thing... I removed the wires and cables

Then I created masks for the sky, the buildings on the left, the structure on the right and the track area. I made an additional mask of just the rails. Did tonal/color adjustments for all those.

I created a layer with a copy of just the traveller (dude on platform) and pushed exposure and shadows pretty hard. Then I masked it off and slowly painted back in a little of that pushed layer to bring out the left side of the dude (lighting motivated by sunset).

Then I took a copy of the whole scene to a new layer, fit it into the screen area and used blending and masks to make it look like the screens were showing what the camera sees.

I also tried a monochrome version. Image by @rjrock.bsky.social #PostProcess #Subtraction

#ECK #ClassicMono

I cropped it to make the image more horizontal to match time/track board and train. Removed wires and people.

Image shows an outdoor train platform at sunset, so it is on the dark side. To the left are industrial buildings with windows which are reflecting the bright sky. The center of the image shows the train and multiple tracks. To the right is the platform and time/gate info.

I removed distracting objects (wires, people), cropped, intensified the sky and color to look more like a sunset.

I cropped it to make the image more horizontal to match time/track board and train. Removed wires and people. Made the sky more like a bright orange sunset which is also picked up in the time/track board and window reflections on the buildings.

Evening #BlueSky 🫖 Inspired by deleting the human factor.

Achieved using LightRoom & info #AltText

Have a great rest of your day my freinds ☺️

Once again, an outstanding original Rock image to work with and thank you my friend for that ☺️

I took the original image into LightRoom and raised all the lighting values to see what l was working with.

I then free hand masked and deleted any humans from the image, the trains and the electronic information board.

I then dropped all the lighting values of the image below the original values, isolated the sky with another mask and boosted those colours.

After that, another separate mask to isolate the tracks to reflect the new sky colours.

The last few steps of the edit was to introduce a new depth of field perspective and l finished with a slight vignette and my usual white border frame.

What I wanted to achieve was subtract the human factor out and any obvious machinery.

Boost some colours, introduce that depth of field to hide the buildings and the built-up nature of the scene and to really concentrate and highlight those leading lines.

Couldn't sleep, so I'm sitting here at 3 this morning trying my hand for this challenge ...
It's now a school bus, early morning on the road;
on the way to pick up the children for school.

First had a cup of coffee... then I enlarged the picture.
Erased the train tracks...
Erased part of the train; made it into a school bus on a cold morning, driving out of the bus depot to pick up the children for school ...

Hello it's Monday ! Time for a new challenge based on an original image shot by @rjrock.bsky.social

#eck #postprocess #subtraction

Details in ALT

For this new challenge I worked with the snapseed app. First adjust exposure and shadows from the raw file. Then apply a focus effect on the rails and the train in the background. Next step vignette. Last step : retrolux filter + grain effect.
