#RMSMauretania of 1906, one of #CunardLine's most successful #OceanLiners, captured the westbound Atlantic speed record from her running mate #RMSLusitania on #ThisDayInHistory in 1909, and held the #BlueRiband in both directions for the next twenty years, an unprecedented feat.

The remarkable #RMSMauretania was launched on #ThisDayInHistory in 1906 on the #RiverTyne in England. #Mauretania became a legend for holding the Atlantic #BlueRiband speed record for 20 straight years, having taken it from her sister ship #RMSLusitania, another #Cunard wonder.

#RMSLusitania of #CunardLine began her maiden voyage from #Liverpool to #NewYorkCity on #ThisDayInHistory in 1907. The use of plaster in her interiors gave her a brighter, airier look than her wood-panelled sister #RMSMauretania, and #Lusitania was popular until her loss in 1915.
