With only 62 characters, spaces included, the very direct letterpress messaging on this silk scrap raises SO many questions! Did the wearer's lover give it to her? And HOW many did they have printed? 🤔

What's Looming?

This spectacular color printed #NewAcq from my 17th c. German buddy Georg Philipp Harsdörffer! The gorgeous rug border, which alternates colors in different printings, alludes to his proposed campaign against the Turks. And FYI, Impressive Textiles is just around the corner!

Yesterday, I noticed this wonderful use of recycling in an 18th c. moral theology text! A much earlier, disused Latin manuscript is now one of my favorite bookmarks @newberrylibrary.bsky.social!
