Urgh, Mondayest Monday in a while.

No #MineralCup.

No #FatBearWeek.

What am I gonna do for whimsical nonsense now?

@bkania.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 6:03 AM

Most of all #MineralCup & Eddie Dempsey 🫂

#TeamFlourite campaigned hard. Really hard, we had some big time #Haters believe me I knew. *A* consortium mused that we had organized & planned a massive assault against #Zircon the #TimeLord.🙄 Nothing further from the #Truth actually. A beloved & faithful #MineralCup player & volunteer to this day

Basically , without #Basic you wouldn't be here. #MineralCup came about because of a rather vigorous debate over which was the most important #Mineral. #Quartz was and is and will be why U are here. 😏
Anyone can #Vote 4 #Quartz at @mineralcup.bsky.social

GO CUPRITE GO! COPPER ORE BABY! #Mincup26 #MineralCup

How did it come down to the two WORST minerals?

Quartz: Scratches my sample holders up, shows up like stink in mineral samples making it hard to see the other phases

Graphite: SUPER slippery, slides out of the sample holder and contaminates other samples, pain to clean up

They live on in infamy! #MineralCup occasionally has a #Tournament of #Champions #OG 's one might say.... #TeamFlourite forever‼️

Team #Halite
I mean, the other guy is ok too but did the Polish fill a whole mine of it with sculptures, statues and chandeliers?

Subducted chert with perfect little #garnets scattered in a sea of #quartz, as seen under cross polarized and plane polarized light; FOV ~ 1.5 mm. Laytonville, California US. Garnet has previously won #MineralCup and maybe 2026 is finally the year for #quartz! #MinCup26

One day during field work in Türkiye, I sat in a dry stream bed to eat lunch and found this #andalusite + quartz rock next to my foot! I walked upstream until I found the outcrops, and ended up with an unexpected new research project on this surprising rock! #MinCup26 #MineralCup

If you (or the Earth) heats up #kyanite at low pressure (shallow depths), you get #andalusite! Both are Al2SiO5, but with distinct crystal structures. #MinCup26 #MineralCup

@sorosilicate.bsky.socialSep 19, 2026, 9:01 PM

Beautiful #andlausite with a crystallographically-controlled cross of #graphite inclusions (chiastolite). It would be epic to have an andalusite vs graphite match, if only andalusite can prevail over cuprite. #MinCup26 #MineralCup

As a writer and stationery nerd, going to have to promote graphite for this round! All for the love of a pencil! ❤️ ✏️ ❤️

The dark mineral in these plane (L) and crossed polarized (R) light photos of a subducted metasediment from Corsica is mostly #graphite. Some occurs as inclusions in #lawsonite, defining micro-folds. #MinCup26, #MineralCup

Andalusite thin section in cross-polarized light. Faint chiastolitic (is that an adjective?) inclusion trails link the corners of the crystal. From an unknown locality, in our teaching collection.

A rectangular grey crystal of andalusite (~ 3 mm diameter) surrounded by mica. Black trains of inclusions (graphite?) link the corners to the central core.
