Not every sea turtle hatchling emerges at once. Nests often open in waves, and that staggered timing helps survival. Keep lights low, stay back, and leave nest areas quiet. A hatchling tangled in fishing line needs calm, not a tug. Back people off, don’t cut or pull, call local rescue fast, and shield it from heat. Save this. #SeaTurtleRescue #HatchlingHelp #MarineWildlife #OceanConservation #WildlifeFirstAid #CoastalStewardship #PlasticPollutionAction #BeachSafety

New anemones and feather-duster worms on a float. New blog post: wanderinweeta.blogspot.com/2026/10/wher... #VancouverIsland #Invertebrates #IntertidalInvertebrates #Wildlife #MarineWildlife #NaturePhotography

On a blue plastic float under a dock, anemones and feather-duster worms have established themselves. The anemones, Metridium sp., are short, white and cream, with white frilled tentacles. The worms, Vancouver Feather-duster polychaetes, Eudistylia vancouveri, live in long tubes, not seen from this angle; what we see are the deep red, pom-pom-like, tentacle heads at the mouth of each tube. The water beneath them is clear, green in the shadow, sky-blue in the light.

Young harbour seal, Brown's Bay. New blog post: wanderinweeta.blogspot.com/2026/09/seal... #VancouverIsland #Animals #Wildlife #MarineWildlife #HarbourSeal #NaturePhotography

A harbour seal pup, in quiet water beside a dock. Only the face is out of water; the seal has his eyes closed, even though at the moment, his eyes are in shadow. None of the youngsters seemed to appreciate the bright sunlight.
He's grey and whitish, with a black nose, white whiskers. The mottled body can be seen under the swirling water. The water is clear, blue.

A sea turtle nest is not “done” after one hatchling appears. Emergence often happens in waves. Keep lights low, give it time, and let the nest work naturally. If a sea turtle looks distressed in the surf, give it space and call trained help fast. Keep people back, note the location, and don’t handle it yourself. Save this. #SeaTurtleRescue #MarineWildlife #OceanStewardship #WildlifeFirstAid #CoastalConservation #TurtleProtection #ResponsibleBeachgoer

Not every hatchling is meant to emerge at once. Staggered hatching is a natural survival strategy. Stay back, keep lights low, and let the nest finish on its own. I was drawn to this young sea lion’s curious expression as it looked toward the camera. La Jolla, CA.

You don’t have to travel far to experience incredible marine wildlife.

Our Ocean Conservation programmes take place across the North Sea, English Channel and Bay of Biscay, where Ocean Conservationists combine wildlife watches with education and outreach.
