For translating songs/poems, the best advice I can give is to make sure you use rhyme-words with lots of rhymes!
This may mean thinking very creatively about the meaning... but the more rhyme-words at your disposal, the more successful your translation is likely to be.

Literary translation requires such an intense level of deep reading that once I'm done, I'm always tired of the original, however masterful, so I never re-read after publication. But recently I've found myself missing A Man (ある男) so I'm listening to the Japanese audiobook.
