An abundance of colour and pattern characterises this mid #1860s bodice from shadowy leaves to garlands of flowers. It is almost easier to appreciate it in isolation, separate from its skirt, the details somehow more impactful as a solo piece #V_and_A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

When Victor Stiebel designed this navy silk dress for Jacqmar in 1954, he built in some adaptable decorative features. There are two different collars and two different coloured floral corsages to mix and match as the mood takes you #V_and_A #FashionHistory

Printed leaves become appliquéd leaves the higher up the dress they travel. Blurry pastels become more defined and the edges frame the shoulders, finished with a pale pink bow. Pierre Balmain, 1954 #V_and_A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The wearer of this dress sounds as glamorous as the garment itself, Mrs Opal Halt, a Canadian who liked to buy her clothes in London. This is a mid #1930s Vionnet gown of black velvet with streamers on either side of the shoulders which look like a mini superhero cape #V_and_A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

It reveals and it covers, the sequinned mesh dress worn with a silver trimmed matelasse coat with a self coloured geometric design. The ensemble reflects the era of the space age and its effects on #1960s fashion, created in Milan by Mila Schön #V_and_A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
