I had a brilliant time at #Ento26 in Cardiff, the annual conference of @royentsoc.bsky.social 🐝

As a behavioural ecologist works on insects, I loved being surrounded by such a wide range of insect science, from ecology and behaviour to physiology, conservation and pest management.

🏃‍♀️ It was fantastic to see such a great turnout this year - Whether you were chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a run with fellow entomologists, a huge thank you to everyone who joined the #Ento26 Conference Morning Run!

Now the challenge is on: Can we beat this year's numbers at #Ento27? 🐞👟

RES CEO Simon Ward takes a selfie with about a dozen runners grouped behind him on a city sidewalk beside a tall stone castle wall, historic buildings and street traffic visible in warm early-morning light.

This is the Peacock butterfly, Aglais io, which I painted at #Ento26. The progress photos show the steps involved, from laying down initial washes of colour, through adding detail and building colour. The last progress phot shows everything painted but bottom eye spots, antennae and the wing veins

Cut to white #sciart #entomological #naturalscience #illustration of the #Peacoc #butterfly, #Aglais io

The butterfly is mostly a rich red, with big blue and black eyespots of all four wings. there are also distinctive black and yellow markings along the top of the upper wings. The body is quite furry, and brownIllustration in progress

The background colours have been laid down, browns, reds and yellows. Wing spots are still left as white space. There's some initial detailing on the body.

Cut to white #sciart #entomological #naturalscience #illustration of the #Peacoc #butterfly, #Aglais ioThe butterfly is progress, The reds have been built up with lots of tiny brush marks, leaving the veins on the wings as white paper. The yellow areas near the body and on the junction of wing and body have been added, along with the flecks of darker brown found here. The bottom left hand wing has the outer margin painted in dark brown

Cut to white #sciart #entomological #naturalscience #illustration of the #Peacoc #butterfly, #Aglais ioThe butterfly is still in progress, but the only parts missing now are the bottom eue spots and the eyes and antennae. The wing veins are still white, but will be knocked back in the next stage.

Had such a brilliant #Ento26 @royentsoc.bsky.social! Great to start new connections and possible collaborations. Lots of enriching activities as well. I thought the plenary speakers were brilliant!
I learnt, once again, that when you attend talks outside your topic they are so enthralling!

Entofashion day at #Ento26 😁
I think my vibe was 'entomology hobbit'.
