Snippet 5!

The further into the sprawling home one went, the more uncertain the brushstrokes on the canvases became. A timeline of a mind breaking down over centuries of adrift from what it knew. The Muse could say that two paintings were of the same person, only a few years apart. Yet when one looked at them, it was hard to say whether that was truly the case. Sometimes, it was hard to say whether what was on the canvas was a person at all. He would regale visitors about them anyhow, the Muse would. A person is nothing if not the stories people tell of them, he’d say. Tales of their feats, their flaws, the sides of themselves they only showed to the man behind the mask.
