Don’t remember this being mentioned during the Black Mage job quests, but is a staff requirement for the mage to channel their magicks? I’m trying to figure out how screwed you’d be as a mage without one…

Something blanks out in Alamir’s expression, when Erenville mentions it being time for him to move on. If Alamir didn’t draw his attention so consistently, he doesn’t think he would even have noticed, as quick as it’s gone again.

But he does notice, and it lingers with him. Perhaps that’s why, when they get a moment to speak alone, Erenville bites his tongue on the offer he’d intended to make. 'I’ll let you know before I leave on my journey,' he says instead, and tries not to be bothered by the way Alamir seems to look through him rather than at him.

It’s easier, admittedly, to shrug that off than the way Alamir smiles at him a moment later, because Erenville knows that smile; has seen him leverage it at perfect strangers when they start to show discomfort around him. It’s the Warrior of Light smiling at him there, not Alamir. It stings more than he would have expected.

Well. They’ll have the length of Etheirys between them for Erenville to nurse those feelings soon enough, he supposes.

(He won’t be another chain around Alamir’s throat. If that means he doesn’t get to be anything at all to him, then so be it.)

2 — Register. Pre-ARR, ~1,000 words.

Coeurlclaw angst abounds in this one as we learn what happens when someone gives birth to a boy. Featuring an entire cast of Keeper OCs. There will be a quiz.

CW: Implied infanticide, implied abuse (physical and emotional), discussion of a dead infant, brief suicidal ideation.

5 — Preservation. Post-game, ~1,300 words.

Written in the style of a report detailing artifacts found in the Swallow's Compass long after Fafnir has passed. One of my favorite styles for a piece of fiction, and where I at one point had five different tabs up researching for this.

Mentions of Hien/Fafnir and Haurchefant/Fafnir.

8 — Strain. Pre-ARR, ~1,700 words.

Have you ever wanted an insight into Fafnir's life back in Doma? Now you can read at least 1.7k about it! But really, getting to write a some small fishing village dynamics and innocent toddler Fafnir was great.

CW: Brief description of a child almost drowning (the child is completely fine).

18 — Reason. 7.0, ~950 words.

Consider this a 'missing scene' for Kiah'a's MSQ. I just think we should have been allowed to talk to Koana after his father died and had an actual conversation about it. Koana/Kiah'a.

21 — Better Late Than Never. 7.0+, ~2,800 words.

My longest entry, but by god did I pop off on this one. Sometime after the Coeurlclaw aunties move to Gridania, Kiah'a comes to visit his mother and little sister. Sunny is less than impressed with him.

CW: God's most uncomfortable family interactions.

22 — Train. 1870s AU, ~1,700 words.

Funny how both my Koana fics made it onto this list, but I had a ton of fun with this one and have to blab about it. The 'Wild West' period is one of my favorites in US history and it fits Koana so well. He gets to be stationmaster while Kiah'a (and the Scions) are bounty hunters. Just read it for me.

I've wanted to write more Haurchefant lives AU and I finally was struck with inspiration here. Haurchefant muses on Camp Dragonhead as he prepares to join Fafnir on his adventures.

It's a Pacific Rim AU, what else do you need? (Fafnir and Haurchefant fight a kaiju and have a good time afterwards).

So, this year was my first #FFXIVwrite ever! I completed all 26 prompts on time (using a make-up day for one of them).

Stats: Around 30k words, so an average word count of about 1,100 words per writing day!
Highest day: 3,255
Lowest day: 213

You can definitely see how I was losing steam, haha.

Kasia’s hands stuttered amid fixing a stolen magitek armor under the shadows of Revenant’s Toll. Despite the shades shielding them from most of the sun’s glare, today felt especially hot, and Kasia’s undershirt was already sticking to her back with sweat. Yet a chill was creeping up the edges of her skin as she recalled her encounter with the Legatus of the XIVth Imperial Legion.

A few days had passed since the Howling Eye, and Gaius’s words refused to leave her mind. There had been no doubt the Legatus had been talking to her. She’d noted the slight shift of his attention, a turning of his black, horned helmet as his impassive eyes bored into her. “And what, pray tell, is the Emperor’s prodigy doing with Eorzean rabble?” he’d said, his deep, baritone voice masked through his skull-like helmet.
