Lots of cterrific #ctenophores in this thread! Thanks for sharing @numenini.bsky.social 🤩 #MarineLife bsky.app/profile/nume...
Our first #morphology session is now running at #DZG2026 with talks including #neural #anatomy in #crayfish and #ctenophores and genital damage in light of sperm competition in #spiders
Above is all my Raja Ampat videos starring #ctenophores but the additional species, also at Mansuar Mioskon - seemingly the #RajaAmpat #ctenophore capital! - was this angel of a Lobate #CombJelly, Spot Winged Comb Jellyfish (Ocyropsis maculata). There endeth the rabbit hole! #combjellies #Indonesia
We also saw Leucothea Comb Jellies at Mansuar Mioskon, Raja Ampat, here against a curtain of Blue-green Chromis (Chromis viridis)

Here's more Leucothea species from Arborek, Raja Ampat - you can see the tentacles quite well.

Besides a Sea Walnut (Mnemiopsis leidyi), here's a Common Northern Comb Jelly (Bolinopsis infundibulum). This fragile being phosphoresces at night & the larger individuals can be found as deep as 1km. The sea at Mill Bay #Salcombe #Devon on 25 June was 18°C, air 24. #ctenophore #ctenophores #invert
Amazing these otherworldly creatures inhabit the little ol' English coast. Unlike other #Devon #ctenophores we saw the Northern Comb Jelly (Beroe cucumis) lacks tentacles, instead engulfing other ctenophores with huge mouth. These ancient marine #invertebrates are largest animals to swim with cilia.
Our run of luck on #CombJellies #Ctenophores in #Devon began on 25 June at Mill Bay #Salcombe with wondrous Northern Comb Jelly (Beroe cucumis). The magical rainbow disco ball effect is structural iridescence caused by the beating of cilia, forming the 8 "comb" rows down its body, to swim it along.🧵
