Title: My Throat

The first knock woke me up
Was that a dream?
I couldn't tell

The second knock startled me
Is it in the house?
My head was throbbing

A third knock, too loud
Why?
I stumbled to the door

I didn't want to.

Did I see movement?

I risked a hello
My words caught
In my throat

My throat

I froze a moment
Something dropped
Off the knocker

It was blood.
Am I bleeding?
