The sidewheel #OceanLiner #SSCentralAmerica sank in a hurricane on #ThisDayInHistory in 1857, about 160 miles east of #CapeHatteras, #NorthCarolina. More than 425 lives were lost, along with 30,000 pounds of #gold from the #California #GoldRush, contributing to the #PanicOf1857.

Satellitenaltimetrie von 1993 bis 2024/25 zeigt nahe #CapeHatteras einen statistisch signifikanten nordwärtigen Trend. Unabhängige Temperaturmessungen unterhalb der Oberfläche von 1965–2024 bestätigen ihn ebenfalls.
