Six residents of different ages, occupations, and living circumstances are attending a regular evening meeting inside an ARK communal residential district. The facilitator presents abstract graphics representing housing operations, long-term repairs, resident benefits, and disaster reserves, along with proposals to convert an unused room into a study space and extend late-night laundry access. A wheelchair user reviews the material on a tablet, while a night-shift resident raises his hand to speak. Beyond the meeting-room windows, the shared kitchen, laundry area, library space, and planted residential levels remain visible.

Residents of different racial, generational, occupational, and mobility backgrounds are attending an evening meeting in an American ARK communal district. Inside a rehabilitated brick building, the facilitator presents visual diagrams covering community stewardship of land, housing operations, repairs, resilience, healthcare navigation, public transportation, emergency savings, and retirement asset building. Residents review documents, take notes, and request time to speak. Beyond the windows, mixed-income apartments, a clinic, childcare, a grocery cooperative, light rail, a neighborhood shuttle, and solar infrastructure form one connected community.

Inside a district security centre in the rain-soaked NEXUS Gigacity, staff are searching for a girl who became separated from her guardian inside a major station. At the central display, human operators review temporarily authorised footage and the routes proposed by the district AI. In the plaza, an unarmed patrol drone maintains visual contact while human officers arrive, kneel to the child’s eye level and confirm her safety. In the independent audit room above, citizen, legal and technical representatives review access authorisation, while routine footage remains anonymised and subject to automatic deletion.

Inside the Memory Garden of an ARK personality-continuity centre overlooking the rain-soaked NEXUS Gigacity, a woman whose memories and personality have been inherited by a renewed young body is reunited with her daughter and granddaughter. Behind her, an archive wall preserves images from childhood, school, marriage, parenthood, work and old age. The granddaughter holds a photograph of the woman in her former elderly body, while the daughter recognises a familiar gesture in the young woman before her. In the reflecting pool, her renewed appearance overlaps with the older face preserved in the archive, raising the question of whether personality continuity represents eternal life—or the birth of a perfect successor.

Inside an ARK school in the deep residential layers of the NEXUS Gigacity, students learn how the city’s domestic water-circulation system works. On the central table, transparent tanks, filtration materials, small pumps and plants form a practical working model. The teacher supports the students at their own eye level, while a wheelchair user participates naturally at an adjustable-height workspace. A library, indoor growing area, cafeteria and accessible corridor connect to the classroom, and deep-layer railways and immense structural supports can be seen beyond the observation window. The equipment shows signs of age and repair, but it is carefully maintained, and the students receive the same core education as those in the middle and upper layers.

Inside a middle-layer ARK residential district in the NEXUS Gigacity, a classroom used by children during the day has been converted into an evening adult-learning space. At the central table, a retired infrastructure engineer teaches a group of residents—including a night-shift worker and people preparing for new careers—how to inspect and repair a water-circulation pump. In the background, a young instructor supports an older resident studying a language, while children complete their homework as they wait for their parents. The scene shows education, employment, childcare and intergenerational knowledge sharing connected within the same living environment.

A vast vertical district of NEXUS at sunset, viewed from a public observation bridge. At its centre, an old stone-and-steel station hall has been preserved while newer platforms, transparent concourses and multilayered railway lines have gradually grown around it. The upper city’s newer towers and gardens catch the last natural sunlight. In the middle layers, apartments, schools, clinics, shops and shared laundries reveal everyday life. Far below, older structural frames, freight railways, ventilation systems and maintenance platforms descend into blue industrial haze, showing how several generations of urban infrastructure coexist through continuous repair and expansion.

### What Is ARK?

ARK stands for **Advanced Resource and Knowledge System**.

“Advanced” represents the technologies and social design that allow the system to adapt over time. “Resource” refers to the essentials of everyday life, including housing, water, food, energy and healthcare. “Knowledge” includes education, professional expertise, practical skills and the information needed to operate society.

Together, these elements form the integrated social infrastructure that supports everyday life throughout NEXUS World.

The name also carries the meaning of an “ark”—a vessel that protects life and preserves a path through times of crisis. ARK connects housing, healthcare, education, food, employment, financial stability and disaster resilience, ensuring that people whose lives have been interrupted still have a route back into society.

ARK is not the name of a particular type of building.

It is the name of the system that connects buildings, cities, public institutions, resources, knowledge and everyday life.

A silver ARK SYSTEM emblem is centred against a black background, combining the forms of a resilient urban structure and a protective ark. Inside the emblem, three connected nodes represent knowledge, while muted cyan and amber arcs represent the circulation of resources and information. Below the symbol are the word “ARK” and its full name, “ADVANCED RESOURCE AND KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM.”
