@bryceblankenagel.bsky.social#DToddChristofferson giving a talk about gambling is interesting. But one quote from it has me rolling: "[Gambling's] entire business model is built on its customers losing money."
Pot. I'd like to introduce you to kettle.
@bryceblankenagel.bsky.social#UlissesSoares' talk is kind of a throwaway about fasting. That is, until he shifts to talking about fast offering$, which is when he kicks into gear about how important it is to give money to the wealthiest religion, even the @churchofjesuschrist.social. #GenCONf #ItsAllACON #GeneralCONference
@thmazing.bsky.socialIf you want to read McKay Coppins article on gambling that Pr Christoffersen cited, here's a free link:

@bryceblankenagel.bsky.socialAnd then #KevinHathaway pivots to a story about a missionary whose father died in a car accident a week before she went home. Why is so much of this #GeneralConference about suffering-porn and death?! What happened at Correlation Dept that made them shift all the talks this direction?!?! WHY?!?!
@bryceblankenagel.bsky.socialWow, #Sikahema's talk ended with justifying his job and telling us that we should be willing to sacrifice everything, even when mourning a lost child, to hear the words of the apostles. "Let us not be guilty of holding the oracles of God as a light thing".
@bryceblankenagel.bsky.social#GerritWGong claims in his talk that some members don't like it when the temples are too small or not ornate enough. Sooooo, Mormons complain about their great and spacious buildings not being blasphemous enough?
@bryceblankenagel.bsky.social#GerritWGong starts off #GeneralConference with a meandering talk about how awesome the church is doing with its temple stuff. This is setting a tone for the entire conference and what they'll focus on. Go to the temple and don't jump ship, even though we all know it's sinking.
@bryceblankenagel.bsky.socialAight, *cracks knuckles*, it's #GeneralConference weekend for the @churchofjesuschrist.social. I'm getting started a little late today and tomorrow, but stay tuned for live coverage and lukewarm takes along the way.
