Fear

Fear passes from man to man
Unknowing,
As one leaf passes its shudder
To another.

Veiled sunshine shakes out her
spangled gown
over miles of silver billows.

We run, crabs loose from a spilt
green bucket,
back to the best of childhood.

Ever detected poetic rivalry and sycophancy online? The ambitious poet who lavishes praise on the biggies & shows little or no interest in their peers. An online ghost that jumps like tigger where they can angle advantage.

It’s a thing

For #smallpoemsunday Thanks @tomsnarsky.bsky.social

For #SmallPoemSunday, @tomsnarsky.bsky.social here is Field Document, collected in *Dance On*, forthcoming from Wordrunner Press, November 15:

Field Document

I saw a woman on fire,
how she was burning,
I saw nothing like smoke,
only the eyes in a flame
clear like thought
never is. You can hear
this and not believe it
and she will not care.
Her eyes, though, do
see it all, finally.

Cover of Dance On, with a drawing of a dancing horse and the cursive in red "When the Gods to dancing may they always invite you".

It’s #NationalPoetryDay somewhere. I’m in. #TodaysPoem is from Rubies, the 20th anniversary chapbook. This one by Claudia Coutu Radmore was a sternum jab in the best sense. too early for #SmallPoemSunday?

the squirrel an egg and turning over

an older squirrel perches on the railing
gnawing on a peanut in the blizzard

I turn from the window to check
my egg poaching in its simmering

water and when I nudge it, it turns over
and suddenly you're here at only two

weeks old and your uncle Carl is
visiting surprised that you so seldom

cry, amazed that at only two
weeks old
you've rolled from your tummy onto

your back and now Uncle Carl is gone and you are gone
How can you not be

here asking about the squirrel with no
ears? soon the old squirrel will be gone

and how in your last sweet years you
looked so much like your uncle CarlRubies, with image of pomegranate by Dion Prints

OLD LAMP

This world, old lamp, flickers.
No tinkerer, I let it alone. I,
who made a little sun,
once, or would have. Marred,
yet unmistakable, the wick
blows away black, gone firefly.
