I love doing probs with "mixed" groups of Ts - say grades 3-12. The MS and HS Ts are all using algebra, and the Gr3 T is like, "Duh. Just do this and you're done. Why are you doing all that work??" (It's even better if I didn't think of it already!) #ElemMathChat

Gotta talk about why it works... otherwise students are memorizing procedures & algorithms; that only gets them so far.

A3: My wife with preschoolers will ask them to do something like "Show 8" with fingers from two hands in as many ways as they can. That's pretty cool.

A5: I LOVE LOVE Steve Jenkins' books (Actual Size, Down, Down, Down Etc). Beautiful art paper cut out and he really helps kids understand size of number! #elemmathchat
