The #SundayFishSketch #SciArtSeptember combo today for Day 6 Coral is the Exquisite Fairy Wrasse! I got black paper with my new colored pencils and wanted to see if I could make this guy’s bright white pop!

I forgot! #SciArtSeptember today is coral. I was inspired by the bubble coral because it simply looks like a bunch of bubble gum bubbles blown up and plopped together. I tried doing this with actual gum because I’m a mixed media artist but I only had mint gum and the bubble wouldn’t stay. Poopy!

For #SundayFishSketch x Day 6 of 2026 #SciArtSeptember #Coral here is a tiny baby Coris gaimard — and reference photo I can proudly say is my own! 🦑🐡🧪

Today’s #sciArtSeptember prompt is the colour coral, so I am sharing a mineral with all sorts of warm pinks. 🧪⚒️ This is a hand-printed lino block print of the mineral rhodochrosite, in pale gold, pinks and rosey-orange or coral. Each print is made from three blocks in three tints & shades 🧵

My linocut print on 8” x 8” cream coloured washi paper shows a specimen of rhodochrosite complete with the word “Rhodochrosite” in script in dusky rose. The mineral is printed in tints and shades of dusky rose and cream with some wiggly stripes and irregular concentric rings of colour with the irregular shape of a rock.

#SciArtSeptember 2: violet

A recently described specimen of Sinopterus dongi showed, for the first time, evidence of iridescent colour in pterosaurs. There were also traces of horizontal stripes on the soft tissue crest. The Mesozoic world is getting more and more colourful. #SciArt

#Orbit from the #SciArtSeptember prompt list of Kristin Henry.

It may appear more abstract art than innovation. From this project I created a toroid algorithm that uses 6 nested polygonal threads. Also learned how to confine moving points to a fixed distance from the surface of an irregular object.

Day 5 of #SciArtSeptember is saffron so I drew Laphria saffrana, a robber fly.

Finally a few clouds to make a decent sunset. There’s some #saffron in there.
