day 8: strain
(7.55 spoilers) calyx is NOT having a good time. alamir however is having a GREAT time so it's probably fine, right.
#ffxivwrite #ffxivwrite2026

Calyx doesn’t know what possesses him to seek out the Warrior of Light once again. Halmarut won’t be best pleased, he knows that much, though he doesn’t think he has any intent of revealing more of her plans this time. There’s simply a pull there, one he doesn’t fully understand and doesn’t think that he likes.

Perhaps that pull is, too, why Alamir’s eyes light up when he sees Calyx approach. It’s not the expression of a fated hero seeing an opponent, certainly. There’s no animosity in it at all; if anything, he’d say the Warrior of Light is delighted by his presence, if he had to put a name to it. He doesn’t understand why. He doesn’t like it.

But Alamir tosses himself to the ground beside Calyx, with all the carefree recklessness of someone who’s never had to worry about too-brittle bones or aching joints, and all Calyx can really do is lower himself slowly to sit beside him.

He hasn’t decided what to say before Alamir announces, as brazen as anything, “I want to make you a new body. One that’s less… well.” He gestures, here, to encompass Calyx’s current form.

Calyx only stares. And stares. And stares some more.

“I will not debase myself by occupying a living body ever again,” he says eventually, the same as he had when Halmarut had made her offer.

Something about this seems to amuse Alamir, or at least that’s what Calyx takes from the way his lips twitch and his tail curls behind him.

“It would not be like your original body,” the Warrior of Light insists, “It would be like mine. You wouldn’t need to eat, to sleep, unless you chose to. It wouldn’t sicken or die.”

Calyx cannot grasp the thought in his mind. Or, rather, he does not want to grasp the idea in his mind; the suggestion that the Warrior of Light, by some process of luck or birth, is not— that he cannot—“You ate and slept in Solution Nine,” Calyx says, because that he can grasp. That throws doubt on the entire idea.

The Warrior of Light goes very still. He does not breathe or blink and his eyes are so wide, so dark. And then, abruptly, he’s back in motion, leaning carelessly toward Calyx on the grass and asking, “Were you watching me the whole time?”

He doesn’t sound horrified, or offended, or any of the other things Calyx suspects should be the normal reaction. There is, instead, an odd breathlessness to his tone that Calyx would like to attribute to the lack of prior breathing but that— that does not feel right. It feels anticipatory, almost. As though the answer to that question is as important to him as oxygen— ought to be. Apparently isn’t.

Calyx can only nod, slowly, and watch as Alamir closes his eyes and exhales in something almost blissful.

“I can do both, of course, and they have their appeals to me,” he says eventually. A beat, and then he adds, “And people get… unsettled, when you abstain long enough.”

He smiles then, almost conspiratorial, and it’s charming and it shows a hint of fangs and Calyx thinks apparently not eating or sleeping might be the least unsettling thing about the Warrior of Light. He thinks he’s in over his head. He thinks Halmarut is in over her head.

“I— I’ll consider it,” he bites out, when it becomes clear that Alamir is still expecting an answer to the question of a body. It feels the safest option, noncommital and nonconfrontational at once, and he’s rewarded with Alamir outright beaming at him. That too, is radiant, and if Calyx still had adrenal glands he thinks they’d be working overtime.

(Calyx has never believed in gods but he has read of them, and he thinks he understands, now, the fear of them; capricious and charming and wrong.)

ok we're backtracking because i Finally had an idea for this one. parhelia was the first wol i played edw on and they're still very near and dear to my heart

“Has your journey been good? Has it been worthwhile?” Venat asks,
and of course the answer is no - of course they’ve been through too much -
but they’re kind, at the heart of it. Parhelia cannot speak truth in the face of her,
this god who has caused them such pain, and he cannot speak through them,
and so they only turn away and do not answer, and she must be content with that.

Zenos gives them the chance to walk away, of course, and they ought to take it
but Zenos has ever been his burden to bear, though he knows it not.
And so, here, they step back. It is the end of the universe and they would rest here if they could,
if the world did not demand their presence. He picks up their scythe to face a rival
who has ever seen only their face and not what lies behind it, never known his foe in truth.

They flee to Ishgard as soon as they have strength to move again, out into the snow
where they were born in truth and he came to be a part of them. He watches in silence
as they drop to their knees, snow soaking through their clothes and howl out loud
with all the pain and rage of a wounded and broken animal. He’s there beside them
when they drop their head to the frozen ground and call his name; broken, begging.
He’s always known that this day would come eventually; how could he not?
So it’s no surprise when they beg for the rest they have so long resisted, when they
reach out to the nothing that is him. He knows. Who else has ever known them this way?

When Fray stands from the ice, when he shakes the snow from aching hands and wet clothes,
they only thank him, over and over, small and broken and tired, and finally sleep.Photo, no description

having fun with today's #ffxivwrite hueheheuehehuehe. the boys are fiiiightiiiiinnnnnggggggg

“So, now what?” He starts to turn towards Rook, not entirely able to keep his annoyance out of his tone. “What the hells are we supposed to be doing out here, any—”

He hasn’t even fully turned before a heavy, powerful fist slams straight across his right cheekbone.

Saburo staggers back with a shout, and it’s to his incredible shame that he’s been caught so thoroughly off his guard that he can’t do a thing to stop himself from staggering right to the ground. Before he’s fully fallen, though, he manages to recover at least enough of his wits to roll with his momentum, to get his feet back under him with sufficient speed that it only takes him another moment before he springs back up into a defensive stance, both fists raised to shield his face.

Rook, meanwhile, is standing there as calmly as ever, his shoulders only barely rounded, his own fists only barely raised into a boxing stance. He looks down at Saburo with an infuriatingly impassive stare.

Day 21: Better Late Than Never
Runar receives an unexpected, yet long-hoped-for guest.

G|1,108 words|Shadowbringers NPCs/spoilers. Y'shtola x Runar.

Excerpt from the Final Fantasy XIV fanfiction "A Long-Awaited Night" by EscaFox.

Text:
"Runar! RUNAR!" the excited shouts startled the Ronso from his task and he turned to see one of his fellow Night's Blessed panting in the door.

"What is it, Harvene? Are we under attack!?" he leapt to his feet, glancing around for his weapon.

"Far from it! Runar…she's back!" Harvene said with a pointed look at him. The leader of the village felt his heart's pace quicken. There was no need to clarify who the visitor in question might be and it was all he could do not to bowl the Hume over as he dashed into the aetheryte plaza of Slitherbough.

There was a rattling of bottles as the Xbr'aal retrieved some drinks from an icebox, uncorking one and taking a long swig with a pronounced gulp and sigh of satisfaction.

"Gods I've been missing that all day…" she muttered and passed the liquor over to her partner. Papawni enjoyed a couple sips, not as thirsty as the other woman had been working over a raging forge for hours.

Well. That was entirely true…

An excerpt from the Final Fantasy XIV fanfiction "Track Change" by EscaFox.

Text:

In the quiet of his room, Eheeya realized for the first time in awhile that he had an opportunity to pause. There wasn't another engagement looming on the horizon to attend, no new choregraphy to plan to keep his routine in the ring fresh and dazzling, he could just be himself for a bit.

Day 18: Reason
the Endsinger prepares herself for the final battle and strives to understand her opponents.

T|924 words|MAJOR Endwalker MSQ Spoilers.

An excerpt from the Final Fantasy XIV fanfiction "A Determination That Defies All Reason" by EscaFox.

Text:

Something akin to a dark bemusement rippled through the sisters. They supposed that the girl had a point. Tragically for her, then, that the Meteia had far greater numbers to bolster one another. A call went out across Ultima Thule and their full power, minus one, was brought to bear. They crafted a cold and beautiful form, a woman's face recognizable enough to the eyes of mortals, but bearing wings that would soon cover all of existence into shadow. The Endsinger felt a tremor of fear and doubt in her opponents. Good, her choice of visage unsettled them and they would be unprepared for the unleashing of her rage.

Ahhh, the rage…It rises…Rises…
