Before they were flat discs, records were wax cylinders. Here, #FrankMatsura is amazed, hearing one for the first time. (A cylinder is basically a tube, right?) #WIPsnips #tube

He sprung out of his armchair and went over to a mechanical device on a table. “Do you see this? I bought it for Mrs. Andersen last Christmas. It’s an Edison Home Phonograph.” He opened a cardboard cylindrical box and drew out a black cylinder. He handed me the box. It was printed with the words “Edison Gold-Moulded Records Echo All Over the World.” After installing the cylinder in the device, he turned a crank, and a waltz emerged from the gilded horn protruding from the top of the machine!
“Remarkable, isn’t it? It’s new.”
I marveled at the invention. I’d heard that such a device had been invented, but had never seen or heard one. Bright, metallic music filled the room. I could make out the sound of French horns and flutes. It was yet another twentieth century miracle, like typewriters, telephones, and incandescent lamps.

Max had done his best to remodel the master bedroom to accommodate his own furniture and remove some of the images burned into his brain before he learned to knock before entering.
The closet was empty except for Edwards day bag. An extra shirt, shaving kit and the necessary toiletries in case of emergencies. Hoping for at least an extra tube of toothpaste, Max was happy to find Tylenol, dental floss, toothpaste, and a charger for a Nokia cellphone.
Is if he received a slap in the back of his head, Max remembered the Nokia from the hotel and the call from the stranger who alerted him to the ambush.
“Didn’t Edward want to use a Nokia for the trackers?” The question raced through Max’s mind as he searched for the phone.

Is it fun?”Talyn narrowed her eyes at him. “Please explain your question.”“Is flying around in the combat frame fun?” he asked again. After the shoulders came a loose tube of self-affixing polymer that connected the gauntlets to the rest of the frame. Talyn extended her arm for him to wrap the fabric around her. “I bet it’s a lot of fun. I’d love to fly around in space myself, free from gravity and endlessly mobile.”“It is… not unpleasant,” she agreed with a frown. “Please recall that I shall be fighting for my life and the lives of my friends and will not be considering how entertained I am by space flight as I do so.”“Right, obviously,” Marcus chuckled.“Additionally, the fatigue I shall feel on returning to gravity will be very unpleasant,” she said. “As will the readjusting of my core temperature after the cold of the vacuum of space. However…”He tightened the straps on her arm guards, and Talyn lowered her gauntleted hands to her sides. After some thought, she nodded decisively.“It is fun,” she said. “I enjoy flying very much.”

Rushak gains a new perspective on the homelonging. He also has a decision to make.

- Brother’s Keeper, my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power

deeper. A strange, joyous pang ran through him. He really was one at heart with those from whom he was so separate. He could feel it, so alive. His sense of oppression lifted even as his heart faltered against the
homelonging's keen edge, and his eyes watered as he exulted in the aliveness of his feelings.

And he had to dismount. His legs failed to
hold him. Frasca wisely danced to the side as his quiver flopped off his shoulder and the arrows spilled out. His hair trailed in the dirt; sweat erupted from him everywhere. The nausea, too, was worse without his brother.

"Oh, sticks," Cerel said. "Maybe you
shouldn't..."

He wiped his mouth on his sleeve. Thirty
paces back the way he had come, and the sickness would be gone. He could go back home, back to Drisal. If not now, then never.
