Danish #SFinTranslation from @ndbooks.bsky.social
Glancing through my shelves I am reminded of this Hungarian fiction translated into English: The novelisation of the first movie to feature Dracula, in 1921, and was an Hungarian silent film.
Any relationship to Bram Stoker’s story is basically zero though.

Translating poetry of mine from English to Dutch. It's always a struggle when one language has multiple words for a thing where the other has only one.
'bait' and 'lure' both translate to (lok)aas in Dutch. So I ended up just scrapping a whole sentence 😅
Fascinating...by the mid-1970s, Mark Purcell was shifting the International Scene section in Luna Monthly from a collection of news items to reviews of #SFinTranslation.
"What western languages like French provide is a way-station for international sf going both east and west."
- Mark Purcell, "SF in French," Luna Monthly, December 1971
#SFinTranslation as an area of interest is so contradictory - on the one hand, it's very niche. On the other hand, have you SEEN my spreadsheet? There's SO MUCH SFT, I've barely scratched the surface.
Having so much fun just reading these translated French SF novels from the 60s and 70s- not writing long reviews, just reading to enjoy and planning to put together a post with short synopses and an overview.

This was part of a multi-issue discussion about world SF and awards. With input from all over the world. In 1970. That decade was really something for #worldSF and #SFinTranslation. (See Japan's world SF conference & the creation of the World SF organization).
Luna Monthly was talking about international sf awards 6 years before the formation of the World SF organization...keeps pushing the timeline earlier!

Luna Monthly 👏👏❤️❤️👏👏
Writing an "International Scene" month after month. Before the internet. I am humbled and impressed.
Apparently Luna Monthly had a special section in their magazine in the 70s devoted to "the International Scene"!
Oh wow, I need this in my life! Looks #SFinTranslation relevant too!
It transitioned very quickly from a time-travel thriller to a psychological novel about freedom and humanity's place in the universe...

I did a quick search for "blood" in the "SFT out in 2026" page and...there's a lot of blood, you guys.🤔
