Turning it over and over between her agile fingers and thumb, before letting it gently fall so that the cord untangles itself with the ease that high grade silk always does. Conspicuously he takes hold of his, enclosing it securely in a lightly closed fist. “I have yours here,” he says, blinking away the tears. “You know, Seneca thought that distance was a poor measure of friendship.” She looks at him, “Seneca?” “He said that the mind doesn’t observe the same boundaries as the body. We can be absent from someone and still be with them. A part of me is staying with you!” “Wow! I used to think of you as my little brother”, she says, brushing tears from the corners of her eye, “and then you go and say something profound like that!
