In #mathstoday yr 2 #Alevelmaths did @jamiewoodmaths.bsky.social’s order of transformations walk through, yr 1 looked at simultaneous equations and quadratic inequalities including @mathsjem.bsky.social’s spot the mistake. Grateful for teachers creating and sharing great resources. (Links below)
TMUA mocks now live on the free @meimaths.bsky.social and AMSP course 'TMUA On Demand'! Original questions available nowhere else... written by humans! Pass on to your year 13s in their final weeks of prep.

QUESTION DEEP DIVE
The IB May 2026 exam pack is recently released. Some questions could use a bit more care, but there are some great ones on the papers as well.
This is part 1 - AAHL Paper 1 across all 3 time zones.
Analysis below.

Hi y'all! I've written a series of worksheets aiming at TMUA/ESAT candidates, kinda analogous to Tyler Tutoring's worksheets but going a bit beyond.
This is the first part on algebra. Answers included.
Hence thought of the following:
For you teaching in a Sixth Form college, you see students coming from outside which are all new to you so might have a different perspective on this:
What are the top 3 maths "gaps" you generally see from students fresh from their GCSEs?
Was doing inequalities on a graph with Y12 in #MathsToday. Realized how "unatural" it is for many students (even top GSCE grades with excellent algebraic skills) to relate "their algebra" to a graphical representation.
I need to think more.

Does anyone teach row reduction as a method for finding the inverse of a 3x3 matrix? This is the method I was brought up with (SMP A level maths many years ago). It is never mentioned in specs and mark schemes but I assume it’s an acceptable method?

In #mathstoday #Alevelmaths yr 1 did hidden quadratics and filled in the blanks with this resource from Swinton maths, yr 2 found intersections of modulus graphs mostly adapting examples taken from the dr frost slides - my new A3 MWBs, fine tip pens and board rubbers got lots of use 😀
#ALevelMaths anyone else find the new ActiveHub online textbooks to be extremely slow, glitchy and very frustrating? Have teachers giving up trying to use it in lessons.
Lovely day of #ALevelMaths in #MathsToday, introducing the reciprocal trig functions to my Y2 classes as well as the accompanying Pythagorean identities. Always enjoy the opportunity to make the class cringe with "The one with a tan is sexy" and "The one in the cot is cosy".
#alevelmaths #mathstoday I want to start using polygraph on @desmos.com to improve communication (written and spoken). Any experience good or bad that might be useful?
#AlevelMaths - any recommendations on resources or tips for teaching modulus equations? Must admit I’m a little rusty and want to make sure I am clear. Any advice other than always sketch the graph or if squaring check the solutions in original equation?
In #MathsToday Yr 1 #AlevelMaths proved the quadratic formula using an underground maths card sort, did some explorative work on key features of quadratic functions using factorised form and completing the square and then completed DrAustin finding quadratic equations from their graphs. Links below
In #MathsToday Yr 2 #AlevelMaths explored modulus functions using this MEI desmos activity. Some good discussions were had and they surprised themselves with how much they could work out. When the lesson ended and they hadn’t quite finished a student told me it was fun and he didn’t want to stop 😀

In #MathsToday #ALevelMaths I'm trialling a new HW approach with yr 12. HW is to be prepared to get 100% knowledge on a 15 minute test of the week's content. They do it, peer mark with exam mark schemes. I check and set detentions/interventions for those that do not get that point.
