General question for anyone: how important is it to you to be original with your storytelling? It’s a difficult thing because of how many stories have been told and there are only so many “types”. Do you even try to be unique? Or just try to tell your story the best you can?

11) Craft questions

I am a wimp and have trouble writing people being mean to my characters, because I love them. I know that SOMETIMES people need to be mean to them or there is no conflict.

I am trying, in my WIP, to have the Alliance treat the Zadans like pets. It feels bad.

Honestly, I'm curious how other authors handle the non-writing aspect of our careers. After over 15 years, it's still a juggling act for me lol Promo, website maintenance, managing socials and reader groups, sending out review copies.

For me, the main issue I've had is just with building an audience. Especially with retaining them. I don't know whether it's an issue with my writing or the quality of the videos I've made so far.

This is a weird one, but I've had some issues with being given bad faith criticism.

How do you guys tell good faith criticism from the jerks? And how do you determine which criticism you're going to implement if two people tell you to do opposing things?

For a specific writer, I know she's been gone off and on but I adore how Patience (@jacevk.bsky.social) writes whimsical/absurd humor. Do you just write what makes you laugh off the top of your head or do you plan humor out elaborately?
