Yaaaay #CUPIT time! disgraced actor formerly known as America's Boyfriend VS. serial reality TV villain. three weeks, three fan conventions, and a whole lot of antics.

❤️romcom (com heavy)
📺celebrity hijinks
😈characters behaving badly
🌈mlm enemies to lovers
#CR #RC #LGBT

an illustration of two boys, pictured from the shoulders up. One is blonde with an annoyed expression, the other is dark haired and grinning, making a peace sign with one hand and poking the blonde's cheek with the other. below, superimposed over a smartphone, are the words THE VILLAIN EDIT (attorneytrash)At twenty-six, Max Reilly is already ex a lot of things. Ex-star of Affinity, the TV drama he led for three seasons. Ex-fiancé of Holly Aveline, his costar, who hasn’t spoken to him since the scandal that tanked his career. And ex-darling of the show’s fan base, who went from love letters to death threats faster than the speed of cable.
Most of all, Max is exhausted. The last thing he wants is to be back in the public eye. But when offered a deal to get out of his contract for good, it’s hard to resist—even if the catch is a pre-season publicity tour with Affinity’s current cast. Even if that means weeks on the road with not only his former castmates, but also the show’s newest cast member: Nico Mariani, a scandal-happy reality TV transplant known for exclusively playing villains.
It’s only a few weeks. A few weeks facing crowds of people who actively hate him, of being hounded by gossip columnists, of being trapped on-and-offstage with Nico, who Max can’t shake to save his life.
Because as it turns out, Nico has his own deal with the producers—and soon angry fans and nosy reporters will be the least of Max’s problems.EXCERPT:
	Nico’s first thought on seeing Max Reilly in the flesh had been, damn, this dude’s tall.
	He wasn’t sure what he’d expected. Rory Harper, maybe, that archetypal boy-next-door who’d bit the dust at the end of Affinity season three. There was this one publicity still of him—white t-shirt, jeans, flannel tied around the waist, artistically placed smudges of grease—that was pinned to the vision boards of church-and-chevy girls nationwide. Oh my god, so dreamy, fuck me in a hayloft, etc.
	Max Reilly was a very different creature. Nico had him cataloged in one go. Indoorsy, sleepy eyes, hair unfortunately cut with the roots grown in. Skittish. Bad posture. Cargo pants (seriously). He didn’t dress like America’s Boyfriend, or anyone’s boyfriend, honestly, if we were being totally honest here, if we were being candid. He was, to put it nicely, nothing to write in your diary about.
	Tall, though, damn. And those freckles. But that was the devil talking.

My new book comes out in a few days but I am too sick to properly promote it, so I'm recycling an older post. Carbon footprint and all that.

so funny to me that this romance focuses on tam and his girlfriend's ex but the funniest stuff to write is always between him and his girlfriend. one brain cell between these two

I let out a long-suffering sigh and lay back, throwing my arms wide. “Go ahead, then. Have your way with me.”
“You are such a pillow princess.” She came up and sat on me, and not in a sexy way. Like, on my chest. I wheezed. “It’s just a month, Tam. He works nights anyway, so you’ll barely see each other. And he makes a really good lasagna.”
I slung my arms around her waist, mentally weighing lasagna against my girlfriend’s hot ex who she was obsessed with living in our apartment and walking around all hot and probably shirtless.
“He has to keep his shirt on,” I said.
She looked at me like I was exhibiting concussion symptoms. “…Why wouldn’t he? Is this a 90’s porn? People don’t walk around shirtless in other people’s apartments.”
“You wouldn’t walk around shirtless in other people’s apartments if you looked like that?”
The notion seemed to shake her slightly. She was quiet for a moment. “…Damn.”
“I’m saying."

A snippet from a larger piece showing a group of people digging up a big stone head and some smaller atrefacts. Some people are drawing. There are goats as well.A drawing of some items arranged neatly: A tortoiseshell comb, a blue ribbon, a notebook with paper scraps, two keys, a sealed letter, a knife or letter opener (ornate), a majolica bottle with a blue bird design, a pencil with a pencil extender, some sweets, and a string with coins threaded onto it.A drawing of some things you might find in a kitchen: a tea towel, a bundle of herbs (parsley, thyme, sage, bay), two wooden spoons, some butcher's twine, a cutting board, a big knife, a candle stub on a little plate, a ceramic jar, some cardamom pods, a garlic bulb (bisected).Three small drawings: One of a shrine under a pine tree with a stone inside, one of a salamander on the forest floor, one of a coastal path with stone steps, two tall trees, stone columns and two hikers in the distance. The overall feel is very late summer to early autumn.

with this and our state fair collab we could be unstoppable in an extremely niche and confusing way

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:03 PM

well don't worry i won't stay a step ahead of you for long. due to my incredible laziness and lack of commitment to anything but writing novels

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:00 PM

man. if i ever get it together enough to do a prompt game i'm gonna do one specifically about humor and comedy writing. i have no credentials to justify my doing this but i AM willing to be punished for my hubris which is basically the same thing

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 12:43 PM

holds my hands out. give them to me

(local so-called romcom writer once again yelling about how most romcom movies aren't actually funny SORRY DON'T THROW ROCKS AT ME)

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 12:32 PM

this is something i am very old man yells at cloud about, and obviously different things will be funny to different people, but i will always say this: if you're imitating or trying to learn from the humor of a specific type of media, did that thing ACTUALLY MAKE YOU LAUGH? OUT LOUD?

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 12:29 PM

i genuinely think writing good comedy is like eighty percent consuming good comedy, not just in novels but in tv movies etc. this is a controversial opinion but i think a lot of people try to recreate the humor of things that aren't actually funny in their writing, and it comes across flat.

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 12:20 PM

tam: it is an actual crime for someone with your physique to just stick on a pair of cat ears instead of cosplaying something. think of your potential. think of the people you're robbing noah: meow tam: if you meow at me one more time i swear to god isabella: let him speak

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 12:05 PM

i have a HUGE issue with same voice syndrome, so what i usually do is write the dialogue as it comes naturally, then do a voice edit in the second draft. so as i'm reading through the first i try to notice where the voices naturally differ and then heighten those differences. if that makes sense

@attorneytrash.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 2:07 AM

i think if i make three posts in a row with typos i should actually be sent to the shadow realm
