Stonehenge from the BBC's One Show balloon, 4th July 2011. #StandingStoneSunday

A colour aerial photograph looking down towards Stonehenge from a balloon. Bottom left is the edge of the balloon basket plus a microphone. Stonehenge is in the centre of the photo, with the since-removed A344 just below it. Photo taken by me.A colour photo showing the One Show balloon prior to lift off. The balloon is fully inflated, with the basket below still on the ground. Next to it, on the right, is a car and trailer, the latter open. In the right foreground is a camera on a tripod. A few people can be seen standing around the balloon basket. Photo by Helen Wickstead.

For this week’s offering for #StandingStoneSunday here’s the base of a Saxon cross shaft in the porch of Escomb church.

And finally, the best of the lot: the enormous Dolmen de la Frebouchere.

It has an enormous flat rock as a roof, with considerable room inside. This must have been a serious burial chamber

Another pic from #Southampton Old #Cemetery #photography and a sort of offering for #StandingStoneSunday - don't they look human, or is it just me?

But then here is a brilliant pair of standing stones: the Menhirs du Plessis.
(You can just see the second stone in the background here)

Second is this apparently “discutable” one - a reconstruction of a Dolmen which has since collapsed…

The 6.5m tall menhir known as Le Géant du Manio in Carnac (Morbihan) is at the end of track between the alignments of Kermario and Kerlescan close to a tertre tumulaire. This card by Le Rouzic in Carnac c.1905. #StandingStoneSunday.

After the University of York's exciting new paper this week, it had to be a Devil's Arrow for #StandingStoneSunday.

This is just half of the southernmost stone, the second tallest in the UK at nearly 7 metres.

The upper half, in detail of a large, pointy millstone grit standing stone, heavily lined and grooved. It is a mottled green, grey and black colour and surrounded by trees.

A #StandingStoneSunday that's more a #TombTuesday cry for help. This is stone 1 of Mougau-Bihan allee couverte in Brittany. I can't see engravings that should be visible. See other pics for what should be there and example from elsewhere in this tomb. Stone 1 has me puzzled. Help!

A photo of an orthostat supporting a capstone inside a passage grave. The stone is apparently engraved with shapes interpreted as a paddle and two small half-spheres which are described as "breasts" - but could be something else (moon and sun??). These engravings are impossible to see. Plan of the tomb showing the location if stone 1 within the passage and illustration of the "breasts" and paddle. View of the grave. Example of another stone in the grave showing three paddles.
