One of the remaining upright stones of Louden Hill circle near St. Breward in Cornwall. #StandingStoneSunday

Colour photograph of a triangular shaped standing stone which is leaning towards a pool of water. Moorland setting, grey sky. Gloomy!

The Devil’s Arrows from a walk in sub zero temperatures in January 2022. When I saw the BBC article www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... I thought the cross in Aldborough looked familiar and that’s because it had been part of the same walk! #StandingStoneSunday

The fourth Devil’s arrow looks like an underfed version of the other three, standing conspicuously on a verge of mowed grass in a village centre. Red brick houses line the streets and an old fashioned lamp post stands just behind giving a skewed sense of scale. The cross itself stands on a plinth with little brackets protruding from it near the top. The sky is a dismal lonely grey that promises nothing but winter. Two Devil’s arrows stand in a plough field, one in the foreground daubed in lichen, the other in a hedge with a leafless tree sprouting up behind it. A dank mist smudges the horizon out of existence.

Love Drizzlecombe - although by name and nature, it’s not always that sunny! [The trees over the brow of the hill belong to nearby abandoned Warren Farm - used as the location for Spielbergs ‘Warhorse’ (2011] #StandingStoneSunday #Dartmoor

Stone row at Drizzlecombe - straight line of stones on a sloping rugged moorland under a grey mizzly July sky - the tallest stones, (at each end, one seen in this photo) are well above head height.Lone derelict moorland farmhouse with two tall trees seen in misty drizzle on a grey July day

Happy #StandingStoneSunday 🥳🌞

This is one of the taller stones (nearly twice head height) in the remote & spectacular Drizzlecombe stone row complex at Yelverton, Dartmoor 🥰

Well worth a visit!

The Carlin Stone, near Elrig in the Machars of Galloway (Carlin = old woman/crone/Cailleach (Gaelic)/winter goddess/witch). It may be the only surviving stone of a circle.

#StandingStoneSunday the Serpent stone or Aberlemno 1. A class 1 #Pictish stone in Aberlemno Angus. It depicts a serpent, a double disk, Z rod, mirror and comb, #Neolithic cup marks are on the reverse, its thought to date to 7th or 8th century.

From summer a few years back - stone circle, Penmaenmawr. An absolutely stunning clifftop location! Quite a walk from where you park your car (about half an hour) but well worth it.

Drombeg stone circle, West Cork. Atmospheric visit on a cloudy day, too much drizzle to see the sea in the distance. Dry enough to get the #sketchbook out. #StandingStoneSunday
