For #stunday. Trying to capture the enormity of the Pyramids of Giza (2004). #Pyramids #Egypt #Giza #photography #ruins #AncientBlueSky #archaeology #travelphotography #AncientSiteSunday #SundayStonework #EastCoastKin #ECK #WCK

This photo captures a close-up, low-angle view of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. The shot emphasizes the massive, weathered limestone blocks that make up the pyramid's base and tiers, showing significant erosion and a rugged texture.

By the look on his face this green man at Tewkesbury Abbey definitely didn't read the full job description.

The Venus fountain in Decumanus Maximus of Herculaneum.

It's been suggested that it features a bonus apotropaic eye to keep you safe, but it's probably just a spout, as Venus has enough going for her as symbol of love, beauty, fertility...

Narrow end of the stone tank of a public water fountain on the Decumanus Maximus of Herculaneum. At the end is a section protruding upwards with a relief of the goddess Venus, her hands near her head as if she's washing her hair. Beside her left thigh is an eye-shaped figure with a round hole at the left side. Some have interpreted this as apotropaic, but it's probably just spout for water to flow into tank from pipework.
The road is visible to the right and behind the Venus figure - it leads to a brick-built arch over the street. This is the edge of the currently excavated sections of Herculaneum, with a high wall separating it from modern town.

For #stunday. The golden light of sunset hitting the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, Greece. (2023)
#PhotographersOfBlueSky #photography #ruins #AncientBlueSky #travelphotography #AncientSiteSunday #SundayStonework #archaeology #Greece #Athens #EastCoastKin #ECK #WCK

The image shows the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, Greece, capturing a historic row of ancient white marble columns standing against a soft, bright sky during sunset. A line of tall, fluted Doric columns remains standing, connected at the top by surviving stone architraves. The scene is illuminated by warm, low-angle sunlight, casting long, soft shadows and highlighting the texture of the weathered stone.

Most people never go or even know this place. It's down a bumpy dirt road away from any important road. Some of the worst bridges I've ever seen where on that route.I biked 110 that day for it.

I think you'll find that's my barrel!
Just some of the dozens of different characters on the Babington monument of c1538 at St Winifred's, Kingston on Soar.
A pun on the family name (a tun being a barrel) there is allegedly a hundred little people, I didn't count them..

For #stunday. Sunset on the cliff-top ruins of the 5th-century BCE Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, Greece. (2023)
#PhotographersOfBlueSky #photography #ruins #AncientBlueSky #travelphotography #AncientSiteSunday #SundayStonework #archaeology #Greece #Athens #EastCoastKin #ECK #WCK

This photograph captures the ancient Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, Greece, dramatically backlit by a vivid sunset over the Aegean Sea.

The remaining ancient Doric columns of the temple stand prominently on a rocky hilltop, silhouetted against the bright evening sky. The sun sits low on the horizon just to the right of the temple, creating a strong lens flare, warm golden highlights, and deep shadows across the landscape.

Ye Olde Bus Shelter in the village is rarely used now (just me I think!), and has clearly seen better days, but these fallen stones give an opportunity to see the previously hidden Mason’s Marks.
