The Ballachulish figure which was discovered in a bog at Ballachulish in Inverness-shire. The figure dates to the Iron Age, and was possibly a goddess. Now part of the collections at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. 📸 My own. #Woodensday #IronAge #Ballachulish

Great to see a community trust making full use of Whalsay Kirk they acquired, recycling the pews that were removed during renovation. Welly stands, coat racks and board games are some items to come out of their workshops 👇

The groaning wooden shelves of J.W.Evans Silver Factory in Birmingham. These are but a few of the thousands and thousands of steel dies that were used with drop stampers to make everything from candelabras to sugar sifters. The now #EnglishHeritage property is an amazing survival. #woodensday

Over stocked wooden shelves full of rows of iron dies. There is the remains of a staircase that the shelves have been built around.

Every column of the sanctuary has a slightly differently carved capital, leading the eyes upwards to the solid arches above and the pitch pine barrel-vaulted ceiling over the nave.

The beautifully carved pulpit, choir stalls, bishop’s chair and organ casing are also #WoodensDay worthy.

#Woodensday from St Peter and St Paul, Eye, Herefordshire. A carved grotesque dragon set in the top panel of a bench. This was taken from the original C16th box pews when the church was restored in the C19th.

Salisbury Cathedral's Chapter House table.
Legend has it that it's where the craftsmen who worked on the building were paid.
It's late 13th/early 14th C (with later top), and now too big to fit through current doors, so it's going nowhere.

A large round table with eight ogee arches in a deep red colour, with blue in top corners behind each side of the arches. Arches are separated by columns with decorative rings top, bottom and centre. On sides of each column are long polychrome panels painted with fleur de lis and lions.
The table sits on red and yellow figured tiles, in the antechamber of the chapter house of Salisbury Cathedral. In the background of the photo is an doorway with a pointed arch, and columns are visible on the ege of the entryway to the cloisters.

How about this marvellous pulpit for #Woodensday? It’s another gem from St Walburga’s Church in Veurne, Belgium.

An ornate wooden carved pulpit in a church. At the base is the Evangelist John; the body has representations of God the Father while the canopy shows the Holy Spirit.

Rustic wall art in Curaçao, photographed in 2014, painted on a weathered ochre block wall. A simple red bird with a green wing sits beside a worn red wooden shutter and dark timber framing, with small decorative marks around it.

Couldn’t find any info in the museum but it might be a picture frame that would have stood up
Those lovely photos with the people’s history staying hidden!
