Would be interested to know what this is #WildflowerID as I'm sure would Aoife!

Hawkweed on the downs behind Steyning. I’m not good at these! #wildflowerhour #wildflowerID

It's Sunday, it's 8pm so it must be #WildFlowerHour!

Still a bit too soon to be sure, but I'd put 50 pence on those ones being common gorse Ulex europaeus. If you find others, tag them #WildflowerID and we'll be pleased to help with idents. 🌱🌿

Until this week I thought all gorse was Gorse. Not so! This, adorning a Cornish cliff top, must be Western Gorse (Ulex gallii)? #wildflowerID #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social

A deeply indented coastline with the cliff top in the foreground almost completely covered with low growing mounds of dark green foliage with bright yellow flowers.A spiny dark green shrub generously scattered with clusters of bright yellow-gold flowers. Behind, out of focus, are more of the same against a backdrop of blue green sea with rows of white-topped Atlantic waves rolling in.

Help with #WildflowerID would be appreciated - I understand that there is a Black Nightshade, Solanum nigrum subsp. schultesii that is more densely hairy than subsp. nigrum - these stem hairs look very dense and not appressed to my untrained eye - have I misunderstood?

A slightly unfair #WildflowerID request - can anyone give me any suggestions about this rather spectacular but very dead grass plant?

A yellow, dead grass plant. What's left of where the seeds were shows they were large and widely spaced.

We couldn't agree more with @lizzie-harper.bsky.social: botanising with your local group is great fun!
It's also a brilliant way to pick up #WildFlowerID tips from friendly fellow plant-lovers in your area.

Excellent point by @amandatuke.bsky.social!
The Carrot family contains edibles such as parsley and coriander but also similar-looking, poisonous plants such as Hemlock (which did for Socrates) & also Oenanthe spp. (water-dropworts).
You need #WildFlowerID skills if you want to forage and stay safe!
