The Multangular Tower sits at the corner of the legionary fortress defences at York (Eboracum). Mostly early 4th cent CE, with medieval additions above. The adjoining fort wall almost stands to its original height.

#RomanSiteSaturday – Diocletianopolis (Bulgaria) was a flourishing Roman spa town renowned for its mineral springs. At least four public baths are known, the largest of which covers c. 3,000 m². Its impressive Late Roman walls, towers, and monumental southern gate still survive.

The remains of the Roman thermal baths at Diocletianopolis. The extensive bath complex was supplied by the town's natural hot mineral springs and included bathing rooms, pools, and a nymphaeum dedicated to the deities of the springs. The Late Roman fortifications of Diocletianopolis (modern Hisarya), Bulgaria. Built in the late 3rd and early 4th centuries AD, the walls were constructed of stone masonry with bands of brick and extended for more than 2.3 km around the ancient city. The monumental southern gate of Diocletianopolis, popularly known as Kamilite (“The Camels”) after the distinctive shape of its surviving twin arches. The Roman Temple of Évora.

The temple is believed to have been constructed around the 1st century CE, in honour of Augustus, who was venerated as a god during and after his rule.

The Roman Temple of Évora (Portuguese: Templo romano de Évora), also referred to as the Templo de Diana (albeit wrongly, after Diana, the ancient Roman goddess of the moon, the hunt, and chastity) is an ancient temple in the Portuguese city of Évora (civil parish of Sé e São Pedro). The temple is part of the historical centre of the city, which was included in the classification by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It represents one of the most significant landmarks relating to the Roman and Lusitanian civilizations of Évora and in Portuguese territory.

Tuscan Volterra reveals ++centuries of occupation: here C1 BC #Roman theatre cut into side of high hill + 3rd C bath complex built when theatre out of use.
Discovered 1950s, theatre featured stunning views, 16m high stage, statues of Augustus+Livia, + seats w local family names.

View from top of hill overlooking Roman theatre and later baths. Discovered 1950s, excavated and rebuilt in 1970s. Now full arena and entries to underground passages are visible, with lower understage sections of the theatre and a rebuilt section to the left with columns defining niches that once held statues. Beyond the theatre is a large colonnaded area which was once part of the theatre complex, where the bath complex was built much later. The arena and other areas are mostly covered in grass. A view from the north, behind the theatre's stage area back towards the seating arena. Stone foundations of the bath complex are seen within a colonnaded area. Nearest the viewer are the caldarium, tepidarium and laconicum, all with evidence of underfloor hypocaust heating system with furnaces. Beyond both baths and theatre, buildings can be seen high above over the city walls.
